BSE Listed Firms Market Capitalization Hits Record Rs 482.31 Lakh Crore

BSE-Listed Firms' Market Capitalization Hits Record Rs 482.31 Lakh Cr

Finance Outlook India Team | Tuesday, 07 July 2026

The combined market capitalization of all BSE-listed companies touched a record high in rupee terms as of Monday's close, driven by a sustained stock market rally, easing geopolitical tensions, softer crude oil prices, and renewed foreign institutional investor (FII) buying.

    Key Highlights

    • BSE-listed firms' market capitalization hit a record Rs 482.31 lakh crore, up 17% since April 2026.
    • Sensex and Nifty remain 8.8% and 7.2% below their January 2 record highs, respectively.

As of Monday's close, the total market cap of all BSE-listed firms stood at a record Rs 482.31 lakh crore, up 17% since the beginning of April. The previous record was set on January 2, meaning the current rally has now taken the market past its earlier peak.

    Broad-Based Rally Led by Microcaps

The BSE 250 Microcap Index has been the best performer with a record high on July 2 after gaining over 32% from the beginning of April. This rally has been by broad measure and not by a few large-cap stocks, analysts said.

Investor sentiment received an additional boost from steps taken by the government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to encourage foreign investment, including initiatives to exempt capital gains tax on foreign investments in government securities and allow direct participation by rhe global Indian diaspora.

    Two Key Headwinds Have Reversed

Market experts pointed to clear signs of an uptrend, noting that two major headwinds - elevated crude oil prices and sustained FPI selling - have both reversed. Crude prices have retreated to pre-conflict levels, while FPIs have turned net buyers, marking a significant shift in sentiment that experts expect to continue, supported by strong underlying fundamentals.

Auto Sales and Lower Crude Support Growth Outlook

Robust auto retail sales in June reflected the economy's underlying growth momentum, while lower crude prices are expected to help keep inflation under control and give the RBI room to maintain a low interest rate environment, according to experts.

Sensex and Nifty Yet to Reclaim Record Highs

Despite the record market cap, the benchmark indices themselves have not yet reclaimed their record highs in rupee terms. Since the start of April, the Sensex and Nifty have gained nearly 8%, but remain 8.8% and 7.2%, respectively, below their record highs touched on January 2 - highlighting that broader market cap gains are being driven more by mid, small, and microcap stocks than by the index heavyweights.
