According to Moneycontrol, Walmart-owned PhonePe plans to take on Google's Play shop when it launches its mobile app shop, Indus Appstore, to the public on February 21.
The debut occurs almost five months after Moneycontrol, in October 2023, first announced that the digital payments company invited Android developers to submit their apps to the platform's app marketplace.
On its website, the company claims to have integrated apps including Flipkart, ixigo, Domino's Pizza, Snapdeal, JioMart, and Bajaj Finserv since that time. A partnership involving apps from well-known real-money gaming creators Dream11, Nazara Technologies, Gameskraft, and Mobile Premier League (MPL) was announced by Indus Appstore in November 2023.
In addition to listing their apps in English, Android developers can post media and videos to their app listings in 12 other Indian languages supported by the Indus Appstore.
Most significantly, unlike the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, which charge between 15 and 30 percent in fees for in-app purchases, the app marketplace would not collect any fees at all.
