By bringing entrepreneurial experience into venture creation, Openfin seeks to improve execution quality and increase the probability of long-term business success

According to the India Fintech Report 2025 by IVCA and EY, India remains among the world's largest fintech ecosystems with more than 10,000 fintech startups, while digital public infrastructure, AI, embedded finance, and regulatory innovation continue to expand opportunities across financial services.
Yet, as the ecosystem evolves, founders require far more than financial backing. They need strategic partners who understand how financial institutions operate, how technology can solve industry-specific challenges, and how businesses can scale across markets. It is within this landscape that Openfin has carved its niche.
Founded by Kamal Kishore Das, an entrepreneur with extensive experience spanning insurance, technology, analytics, and global business development, Openfin operates as a venture studio focused on fintech and insurance technology.
Rather than functioning as a conventional investment firm, it positions itself as an institutional co-founder, combining operational expertise, technology capabilities, go-to-market support, and strategic guidance to help entrepreneurs build enduring businesses.
From Industry Leadership to Venture Creation
Kamal Kishore Das's journey reflects a rare combination of operational leadership and entrepreneurial execution. An IIT Kharagpur engineering graduate and an MBA from IIM Calcutta, he began his career in supply chain and operations with Asian Paints and the RPG Group before moving into financial services.
His nine-year tenure at ICICI Lombard, where he led multiple business functions including the company's digital business, provided first-hand exposure to the transformation taking place within India's insurance industry.
His subsequent role at the General Insurance Council of India further broadened his understanding of how technology and data would reshape financial services at an industry level.
Recognizing the growing importance of analytics, Kamal Kishore Das joined Aureus Analytics, where he established international operations across Singapore and the United States while building commercial software solutions for insurers.

In 2015, he founded Pentation Analytics, whose flagship Insurance Analytics Suite earned the Express IT Award for Analytics Solution of the Year in 2018 and was adopted by leading insurers including Tata AIG and Bajaj Allianz.
International expansion into Hartford in the US and Masdar City in the UAE reinforced his conviction that Indian technology companies could successfully compete on the global stage.
These experiences ultimately laid the foundation for Openfin, launched in 2022 with the objective of building and scaling fintech ventures through deep operational involvement.
A Venture Studio Designed Around Execution
Unlike conventional investment firms, Openfin does not position itself as a passive financial investor. Instead, it operates as a venture studio where founders receive hands-on operational support throughout the business-building journey.
“The firm's philosophy stems from a simple observation: early-stage startups often require execution capability as much as capital. Openfin therefore works closely with founders on technology development, product strategy, go-to-market execution, marketing, international expansion, and operational scaling.
Rather than participating only at the board level, the firm functions as an institutional co-founder that contrib utes to the day-to-day development of the business”, shares Kamal Kishore Das.
This operating model is particularly relevant in fintech, where success depends on navigating complex regulatory environments, developing scalable technology platforms, and building customer trust while maintaining operational efficiency.

Investing for the Next Phase of Financial Services
Openfin's investment philosophy has evolved alongside India's financial services landscape. The firm's leadership views the industry's transformation through three distinct phases.
The first was digitization, when financial institutions focused on moving customers and transactions online. This was followed by the analytics era, during which organizations increasingly relied on data to improve customer understanding, optimize operations, and strengthen business decisions.
Today, Openfin believes the industry is entering a third phase centred on customer lifecycle management. With artificial intelligence becoming increasingly embedded across financial services, the competitive advantage is shifting from simply selling products to delivering superior customer experiences throughout the entire relationship.
The firm identifies intelligent automation as one of the most transformative developments shaping financial services. AI is no longer limited to automating repetitive workflows; it is increasingly supporting decision-making across customer onboarding, servicing, compliance, and risk management.
Equally significant is AI's ability to strengthen customer engagement by enabling financial professionals to provide more personalised recommendations and higher-value interactions instead of transactional sales conversations.
Alongside technology, Openfin also sees productivity, real-time compliance, and international expansion as defining themes for the future of Indian financial services.
Leaner organizations capable of generating greater operational efficiency, supported by embedded compliance and global market access, are expected to emerge as industry leaders.
Creating an Ecosystem, Not Just Investments
Beyond building individual ventures, Openfin's long-term vision extends to strengthening India's broader fintech ecosystem. The firm aims to establish the venture studio model as a recognised investment category within India.
While venture capital and private equity are well understood, venture studios remain relatively underrepresented despite their ability to combine capital with deep operational participation. The firm believes this collaborative model offers founders stronger execution support while improving business outcomes.
The company also envisions India becoming a global hub for insurance innovation. Having successfully built businesses that expanded into international markets, Openfin encourages entrepreneurs to think globally from the outset rather than waiting to establish domestic scale before pursuing overseas opportunities.
As India's fintech ecosystem continues to mature, Openfin is positioning itself as more than an investment firm. By combining entrepreneurial experience, operational leadership, and long-term partnership, it is helping shape a generation of ventures designed not only to attract investment but to build enduring businesses capable of competing on a global stage.
