M Sahu & Co.'s evolution from a single location practice to a multi-location firm has been driven by the need to remain closer to clients while maintaining consistency in professional delivery

Chartered Accountancy is moving beyond its traditional association with audits, taxation and statutory compliance. As businesses navigate evolving tax structures, tighter reporting expectations, digital financial systems and increasingly complex transactions, they need professionals who can interpret financial information within a larger business context. Automation is simultaneously taking over many repetitive accounting and reconciliation activities, shifting the profession towards areas where judgement, interpretation and strategic understanding matter more.
Operating within this changing landscape is M Sahu & Co., a Chartered Accountancy firm established in Vadodara in 2009 and subsequently expanded to Delhi and Chittorgarh. Serving MNCs, large corporates, SMEs and owner-managed businesses, the firm has built capabilities across assurance, taxation, forensic audit, CFO advisory, insolvency, transaction advisory and accounting and regulatory compliance. At the centre of this growth is a philosophy that has remained consistent since its inception: the value of a CA firm should extend beyond completing regulatory requirements to understanding the client's business well enough to provide relevant and actionable advice.
Building Scale without Diluting Standards
M Sahu & Co.'s evolution from a single-location practice to a multi-location firm has been driven by the need to remain closer to clients while maintaining consistency in professional delivery. Rather than relying extensively on teams travelling between regions, the firm gradually established offices in different locations to strengthen accessibility and responsiveness.
Expansion, however, brought an equally important question: how could the firm ensure that a client interacting with any office received the same quality of service?
“M Sahu & Co. addressed this by decentralising its physical presence without decentralising its core quality framework. Checklists, validation mechanisms and quality-control processes are centrally governed, while individual offices operate with partner-level ownership rather than being managed merely as satellite branches. Regular partner reviews and a common quality framework aligned with ICAI peerreview guidelines further support consistency across locations”, shares Manoj Kumar, Founder & Partner.
This structure reflects the firm's approach to scale: geographic expansion should not come at the expense of professional rigour, independence or client trust.

Turning Client Challenges into New Capabilities
The firm's service portfolio has not developed simply by adding practice areas to broaden its market offering. Many capabilities emerged from problems encountered while working with clients.
A case in point was a business experiencing financial pressure alongside gaps in MIS reporting and financial monitoring. Recognising that conventional accounting support alone would not address the problem, M Sahu & Co. recommended structured CFO support to strengthen the company's MIS and finance systems. Similar situations involving business stress led the firm towards insolvency and transaction advisory capabilities, including support around mergers and acquisitions.
Over time, this problem-led approach expanded the firm's expertise across statutory and forensic audits, direct and indirect taxation, GST, transfer pricing, CFO advisory, insolvency, transaction advisory, accounting and ROC compliance.
Specialisation within the partnership has supported this expansion. Founder Partner Manojkumar Sahu brings expertise spanning Chartered Accountancy, IFRS, Information Systems Audit and forensic auditing, while other partners focus on areas including direct taxation, indirect taxation, litigation, assurance and government audits. By allocating functions according to professional expertise, the firm seeks to combine a broad service portfolio with deeper capability within individual disciplines.
Technology is Changing Where Accountants Create Value
For M Sahu & Co., technology represents a shift in the nature of professional work rather than a threat to the profession. The firm has been investing in datadriven audit tools, automated reconciliations and MIS dashboards to reduce the time professionals spend manually extracting and organising information.
The larger objective is to move professional effort towards analysis and judgement. While technology can process transactions, reconcile information and generate numbers at increasing speed, the firm believes those outputs cannot independently determine what a business should do next.
“This distinction is becoming particularly important as AI-enabled accounting develops alongside changing GST and taxation requirements, greater forensic scrutiny, cybersecurity concerns and stronger regulatory expectations. In this environment, the Chartered Accountant's role increasingly lies in interpreting what financial information means, identifying risks and helping businesses make informed decisions. M Sahu & Co. therefore views automation as an enabler of professional judgement, rather than a substitute for it”, shares Manoj Kumar.
Deepening Sector Expertise for the Next Phase
Having developed functional specialisation across assurance, direct taxation, indirect taxation and government audits, M Sahu & Co. is now preparing to deepen its expertise at an industry level. The firm is developing specialised teams for sectors including banking, pharmaceuticals and energy, with the aim of understanding the operational and regulatory issues unique to each industry.
Alongside sector specialisation, talent development will be central to the next phase. The firm is investing in structured training to develop future partners internally and create a stronger leadership pipeline.
From a practice built from the ground up in 2009 to a multi-location firm today, M Sahu & Co.'s journey has been shaped by steady capability building rather than expansion for its own sake. As Chartered Accountancy becomes more technologyenabled and advisory-oriented, the firm's next chapter will focus on combining sector knowledge, professional judgement and technology while preserving the quality and integrity on which the practice was founded.
