A portion of the late industrialist's Rs 10,000-crore estate is anticipated to go to Shantanu Naidu, a longtime associate of Ratan Tata. In addition, the businessman canceled Naidu's foreign tuition costs and gave up his interest in his companionship business, Goodfellows.
A two-story home on Mumbai's Juhu Tara Road, a 2,000-square-foot beach bungalow in Alibaug, fixed deposits exceeding Rs 350 crore, and a 0.83% stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of the $165-billion Tata Group, will all be given to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF) as part of Ratan Tata's Rs 10,000 crore will.
The relationship between Shantanu and Ratan Tata:
Ratan Tata, who could never disguise his affection for dogs and his pets, has also made plans to provide for his beloved Tito in order to guarantee that he receives "unlimited care" after his passing.
The friendship between Tata and Naidu, a young man from Pune who had begun working for a Tata group company, was forged by their shared love and concern for dogs.
After completing his master's degree in the United States, Naidu was hired by the industrialist's private office, the Office of RNT, after serving as Chairman of Tata Sons.
Naidu continued to develop socially important platforms and services outside of his day job of running Tata's affairs, and his indulgent boss frequently supported these ideas. One of the most notable of these was Goodfellows, a subscription-based companionship service for senior adults that was launched in 2022.
Despite his health issues, Tata made sure to attend the startup's opening party, where he had invested an undisclosed amount of money.
What is in Ratan Tata's estate?
The Halekai mansion in Colaba, where Ratan Tata lived till his death, is owned by Ewart Investments, Tata Sons' 100% subsidiary. According to the ToI article, Ewart will decide on the future of the industrialist's residence. Ratan Tata designed both the Halekai house and the Alibaug bungalow, but the fate of the Alibaug property is unknown.
Ratan Tata and his family received the Juhu property, which also views the seaside and sits on a quarter-acre ground, after his father, Naval Tata, died. According to ToI, it has been closed for more than two decades, with plans to sell the site.
Ratan Tata's huge collection of 20-30 automobiles, including premium models, is now held at the Halekai mansion and the Taj Wellington Mews service apartments in Colaba. The Tata Group is considering acquiring the collection for display in its Pune museum or auctioning it.
Despite heading the $100 billion-plus Tata Group, Ratan Tata did not appear on wealthy lists due to his minimal personal holdings in group firms. His will is scheduled to be probated by the Bombay High Court, a procedure that might take months.
