When Will Banks Remain Open Between October 19 and 23?

Bank branches are generally expected to operate on weekdays when no applicable festival holiday has been declared for their location. However, the schedule can differ across states and cities. Customers should verify the holiday applicable to their branch before planning a visit.

Are Banks Open on October 17, 2026?

According to the provided holiday information, banks in Agartala will remain closed for Maha Saptami on October 17. Branches in other parts of the country are generally expected to remain open, as the date falls on the third Saturday of the month.

Banks ordinarily operate on the first, third and fifth Saturdays, while the second and fourth Saturdays are regular bank holidays. Local holidays may apply in addition to this schedule.

What Are the RBI's Categories of Bank Holidays?

The RBI classifies bank holidays into three broad categories:

    1. Negotiable Instruments Act holidays: These affect branch banking services and cheque-related transactions.

    2. RTGS holidays: These relate to holidays observed for Real Time Gross Settlement transactions.

    3. Account-closing holidays: These are generally observed for annual account closing, usually on April 1.

Do Online Banking Services Remain Available During Bank Holidays?

Most digital banking services are still offered when physical banks close. Internet banking, mobile banking, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and electronic fund transfer facilities such as the National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) are available for customers to use through digital channels.

Specific transactions availability and processing may be dependent on the payment system, bank and service channel. When a branch is closed you will not be able to access many of the branch-based services, such as services that need face-to-face support.

If customers want to make a transfer, pay bills or use other banking services, they should confirm with their bank whether any of the services are restricted or subject to any processing periods during the holiday.

Bank Holiday Dates may vary from state to state, city to city and branch to branch. Please check the dates as per RBI Holiday Calendar or bank's official website before visiting the bank branch.
