Finance Outlook India Team | Saturday, 14 December 2024

In 2025, the Indian stock markets will observe 14 trade holidays. There will be one holiday in February, May, November, and December, with two in March and August. There will be three trading holidays between April and October.

The first holiday for the new calendar year is scheduled for February 26, 2025, in honor of Mahashivratri. Four holidays, Republic Day, Ram Navami, Bakri Id, and Muharram, have fallen on Saturdays or Sundays, hence no additional holidays will be observed.

Muhurat trading will take place on October 21, 2025, in celebration of Diwali. The timings of Muhurat Trading will be announced later, according to the exchange.

The stock exchanges have issued the official holiday calendar for 2025. The festivities begin with Mahashivratri on Wednesday, February 26, followed by Holi on Friday, March 14. Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id) will take place on Monday, March 31, and Shri Mahavir Jayanti on Thursday, April 10. The following week has Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on Monday, April 14, and Good Friday on Friday, April 18.

Maharashtra Day will be marked on Thursday, May 1. Independence Day is on Friday, August 15, while Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on Wednesday, August 27. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra is celebrated on Thursday, October 2, followed by Diwali - Laxmi Pujan on Tuesday, October 21, and Diwali Balipratipada on Wednesday, October 22. Christmas, on Thursday, December 25, and Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev, on Wednesday, November 5, are the year's last holidays.

A stock market holiday occurs when the Indian stock exchanges, the NSE and the BSE, are closed for trade due to festivals or national holidays. Investors organize their trading schedule with these equities market holidays in mind.
