Central Bank of India Credit Growth Outpaces Deposits in Q2

Central Bank of India Credit Growth Outpaces Deposits in Q2

Finance Outlook India Team | Monday, 05 October 2026

Central Bank of India credit growth outpaced deposit growth in the second quarter of the financial year, with advances rising 30% year-on-year to Rs 3.81 lakh crore.

The state-owned lender reported total deposits of Rs 5.08 lakh crore, marking a 14% increase from the year-ago period.

According to the bank's regulatory filing, total advances stood at Rs 2.93 lakh crore as of September 30, 2025. The latest figures highlight the faster expansion of the bank's lending portfolio compared with its deposit base.

The difference between credit and deposit growth is a key development in the bank's quarterly business update. While advances grew by 30%, deposits increased at a slower pace of 14%. This indicates that lending expanded more rapidly than deposit mobilization during the reported period.

Central Bank of India Advances Reach Rs 3.81 Lakh Crore

Central Bank of India recorded strong growth in its advances during the second quarter, with the total reaching Rs 3.81 lakh crore. This compares with Rs 2.93 lakh crore at the end of the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

Advances represent the loans and credit facilities extended by a bank to individuals, businesses and other borrowers. Growth in this segment reflects an expansion in the bank's outstanding lending portfolio, although the reported figures alone do not identify which borrower categories contributed most to the increase.

The 30% rise in advances also outpaced the 14% increase in deposits. Deposits are a major source of funding for banks, making deposit mobilization an important part of managing lending growth. However, the quarterly figures alone do not establish whether the difference has affected the bank's liquidity, profitability or funding costs.

Total deposits reached Rs 5.08 lakh crore, compared with Rs 4.44 lakh crore at the end of the second quarter of the previous financial year. The increase shows that the bank continued to expand its deposit base alongside its lending operations.

    Key Highlights:

Central Bank of India’s gross advances grew 29.83% to Rs 3.81 lakh crore in Q2 FY2026–27.

Total deposits rose 14.43% to Rs 5.09 lakh crore, trailing the bank’s credit growth.

The bank’s total business increased 20.55% to Rs 8.89 lakh crore, while CASA deposits rose 9.21%.

Total Business Rises 21% to Rs 8.89 Lakh Crore

Central Bank of India also reported a 21% year-on-year increase in total business to Rs 8.89 lakh crore. The figure compares with more than Rs 7.37 lakh crore in the corresponding period a year earlier.

A bank's total business generally combines its advances and deposits. The increase in this measure reflects growth across both sides of the bank's core operations, with advances recording a faster rate of expansion than deposits.

The bank also reported growth in its Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) deposits. CASA is an important banking measure because current and savings accounts generally provide funds at a lower cost than term deposits.

However, the reported CASA figure requires verification before publication. The available statement mentions a 9% increase to Rs 2.26 lakh crore but refers to the end of the second quarter of the previous financial year. The reporting period and comparison figure should be confirmed against the original regulatory filing.

Overall, the quarterly figures point to continued expansion in Central Bank of India's lending, deposits and total business. The faster growth in advances compared with deposits remains the main development in the bank's latest business update.
