Ex-SBI MD Vinay Tonse Appointed Yes Bank Managing Director & CEO

Finance Outlook India Team | Wednesday, 04 February 2026

Vinay Tonse, a former Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI), has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Yes Bank. Tonse succeeds Prashant Kumar, who stepped down from the leadership role earlier this year after serving in an interim capacity.

    Key Highlights

    • Former SBI Managing Director Vinay Tonse has been appointed as Yes Bank’s new MD and CEO.
    • The board expects his leadership to drive stability, governance, and long-term growth.

The appointment marks a significant leadership change at Yes Bank, one of India’s prominent private sector lenders. Tonse brings extensive experience in banking and financial services, having held several senior positions during his long tenure at SBI, where he was responsible for key operational and strategic functions.

In announcing the decision, the board of Yes Bank highlighted Tonse’s deep industry expertise and leadership credentials, expressing confidence in his ability to steer the bank through its next phase of growth and strengthen its competitive position in the market.

Industry analysts said the choice reflects Yes Bank’s focus on consolidating its business after recent years of restructuring and regulatory oversight, with expectations that Tonse’s experience in large-scale banking operations will help reinforce governance and strategic execution.

Tonse’s appointment comes at a time when Yes Bank is intensifying efforts to expand its retail, corporate, and digital banking franchises, while navigating macroeconomic challenges and evolving customer expectations. The board has emphasised that this leadership transition aligns with its long-term vision for sustainable growth and enhanced stakeholder value.
