Finance News Today: Major Markets and Business Updates

Finance Outlook India Team | Monday, 12 October 2026

Indian finance news today, Monday, October 12, is being shaped by the Reserve Bank of India’s measures to support the rupee, an improvement in domestic equity markets, upcoming quarterly earnings and continued foreign portfolio investor (FPI) selling. The rupee strengthened against the US dollar after the RBI introduced measures to redirect oil companies’ dollar demand and restrict certain foreign-exchange transactions. Meanwhile, Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses announced its IPO price band of Rs 143–Rs 151 per share, Infosys came into focus following developments involving US labour certification applications, and HCL Technologies and Avenue Supermarts remained on investors’ earnings watchlists. Brent crude prices also declined, providing some relief to India’s import-dependent economy. Despite the positive market opening, foreign fund outflows, geopolitical uncertainty and elevated energy costs remain key concerns for investors.

Zetwerk Announces IPO Price Band at Rs 143–Rs 151 per Share

Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses has set a price band of Rs 143–Rs 151 per share for its upcoming initial public offering (IPO), targeting a valuation of approximately Rs 25,583 crore, equivalent to around $2.64 billion.

The IPO is scheduled to open for public subscription on October 15 and close on October 19, with anchor investor bidding beginning on October 14. The issue comprises a fresh share sale worth up to Rs 2,830 crore and an offer for sale of approximately 14.45 crore shares by existing shareholders.

Backed by investors including Peak XV Partners and Accel India, Zetwerk provides manufacturing services to customers across industrial equipment, electronics and renewable energy. Its operating revenue reached Rs 4,118 crore in the April–June quarter, increasing by more than 55% year-on-year. Its loss from continuing operations narrowed to approximately Rs 64.13 crore from Rs 881 crore a year earlier.

The IPO will test investor appetite for technology-enabled manufacturing businesses amid volatile equity markets. Investors will assess the company’s valuation, growth prospects, profitability trajectory and use of proceeds before making subscription decisions.

Infosys Assesses Implications of US Labour Certification Suspension

Infosys is in focus after reports that the US Department of Labor suspended new and pending applications under the Permanent Labor Certification programme, commonly known as PERM.

The development has raised questions about the potential implications for Indian IT companies employing professionals seeking long-term employment-based immigration pathways in the United States. The US remains a major market for Indian technology consulting, outsourcing and digital transformation services.

According to reports, Infosys played down the expected impact of the suspension. The eventual consequences will depend on the duration and scope of the measure, the treatment of existing applications and companies’ ability to deploy employees through alternative staffing arrangements.

For investors, the issue adds another factor to consider alongside client spending, employee costs, operating margins and quarterly revenue guidance. Any sustained restrictions affecting employee mobility could influence staffing strategies and the cost of delivering technology services.

HCL Technologies Enters Focus Ahead of Quarterly Earnings

HCL Technologies is among the key companies scheduled to report its September-quarter results on October 12. Investors are monitoring revenue growth, operating margins, new deal wins, client spending and management commentary on demand for IT services.

The results come at a time when global technology spending and corporate investment decisions remain important indicators for India’s IT industry. Commentary on artificial intelligence-related services, digital transformation projects and demand from overseas markets could influence expectations for the wider sector.

Investors will also assess whether the company can maintain profitability while balancing employee costs, pricing pressures and investment in emerging technologies. Its performance may offer insights into the operating environment for Indian IT services companies as businesses increasingly evaluate AI-led productivity and digital transformation initiatives.

The earnings announcement is part of a broader set of corporate results expected to influence market sentiment during the week. Investors should distinguish between pre-results expectations and the company’s actual reported financial performance.

Avenue Supermarts (DMart) Draws Attention Amid Q2 Earnings Activity

Avenue Supermarts, which operates the DMart retail chain, is attracting investor attention as market participants assess its September-quarter performance and outlook.

The company’s results are expected to provide insights into consumer demand, store expansion, revenue growth and profitability in India’s organised retail sector. Investors will examine comparable-store sales growth, operating margins and the impact of food and household product prices on consumer purchasing behaviour.

These indicators are particularly important for retailers operating with a value-focused business model, where inventory management, procurement efficiency and cost discipline influence profitability.

DMart’s performance may also help investors evaluate the health of essential and discretionary consumer spending. However, the stock’s inclusion in market coverage should not be interpreted as confirmation of a fresh announcement or specific quarterly financial figures unless supported by the company’s results.

Investors will look for evidence that revenue growth can be sustained without compromising operating margins as competition intensifies across India’s retail market.

Adani Green Energy, PTC Industries and Anand Rathi Wealth Remain on Investors’ Watchlists

Adani Green Energy, PTC Industries and Anand Rathi Wealth are among the companies attracting attention in Monday’s market coverage.

For Adani Green Energy, investors will assess renewable energy capacity additions, project execution, financing costs and electricity generation performance. The company’s capital expenditure and ability to expand its renewable energy portfolio remain important considerations for evaluating its long-term prospects.

PTC Industries, which operates in advanced engineering and manufacturing, may attract attention around order execution, industrial demand and opportunities in specialised manufacturing. Its aerospace and defence-related business exposure is another factor investors may monitor.

Anand Rathi Wealth will be watched for developments in assets under management, client acquisition, fee income and profitability. Wealth management companies are sensitive to financial market valuations, investor participation and the flow of funds into investment products.

These businesses feature in stocks-to-watch coverage, but their inclusion does not establish that each company announced a new development on October 12. No new attributable executive quotations were available in the reports reviewed for these companies.

Sensex and Nifty Open Higher as Market Sentiment Improves

Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Monday following a decline in crude oil prices and the RBI’s latest measures to reduce pressure on the rupee.

The Nifty 50 had gained 0.27% to 22,575.65, while the BSE Sensex rose 0.21% to 72,630.43. Eleven of the 16 major sectors recorded gains at the opening. The small-cap index advanced 1.1%, while the mid-cap index rose 0.4%.

The opening gains followed a strong recovery on Friday, when the Sensex rose 879.09 points, or 1.23%, to close at 72,472.33. The Nifty 50 climbed 288.65 points, or 1.30%, to 22,520.45.

Despite the positive start, market participants remain cautious because of foreign investor selling, elevated energy prices and uncertainty surrounding global economic conditions. The sustainability of the rebound will depend on whether investors continue buying shares beyond the initial relief rally.

RBI Measures Trigger a Sharp Recovery in the Rupee

The Indian rupee strengthened sharply on Monday after the RBI introduced measures aimed at reducing pressure on the domestic currency. The rupee opened at Rs 95.76 per US dollar, compared with Friday’s close of Rs 96.73, representing an opening appreciation of approximately 1%.

The RBI’s measures seek to reduce spot-market demand for dollars from oil companies and moderate corporate demand for forward dollars. The central bank has also introduced restrictions concerning the rebooking of cancelled rupee-linked derivatives, adjusted thresholds for certain foreign-exchange transactions and imposed a 20% cash requirement for specified currency contracts.

The immediate recovery is positive for importers and businesses exposed to foreign-currency costs. However, tighter restrictions may also increase hedging costs for some businesses and affect foreign-exchange market liquidity.

The rupee’s longer-term direction will depend on crude oil prices, foreign investment flows, the US dollar and India’s external financing requirements. Despite Monday’s recovery, the currency remained under pressure over the year, according to the reports.

Brent Crude Falls Towards $103 per Barrel

International crude oil prices declined on Monday, providing some relief to India’s economy, which relies heavily on imported petroleum.

Brent crude futures fell approximately 1.5% to around $103 per barrel amid expectations of reduced supply disruption following reported developments involving Russia and Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Lower crude prices can help ease India’s import bill, reduce pressure on the rupee and potentially moderate inflation. They may also benefit sectors such as aviation, paints and other industries that use petroleum-derived inputs.

However, oil prices remain elevated, and the outlook is uncertain. A sustained increase in crude could raise transportation and manufacturing costs, complicate inflation management and affect corporate earnings.

For investors, the relationship between oil prices, the rupee and government finances remains an important theme for the week. The sustainability of the decline will be more important than a single session’s movement.

Foreign Investors Withdraw More Than Rs 44,000 Crore From Equities

Foreign portfolio investors continued to reduce their exposure to Indian equities, adding to pressure on domestic markets. FPIs had withdrawn Rs 44,166 crore from Indian equities during October, taking cumulative outflows for 2026 beyond Rs 3 lakh crore.

The reported selling reflects several concerns, including high crude oil prices, a stronger US dollar, elevated US bond yields and the attraction of other Asian markets benefiting from the artificial intelligence investment cycle.

Sustained foreign selling can weigh on share prices, increase market volatility and put pressure on the rupee as overseas investors convert investment proceeds into foreign currency. Domestic institutional investors and retail participation may provide support, but the balance between domestic buying and foreign selling remains important.

Investors will watch upcoming earnings, global interest-rate expectations and geopolitical developments for signs of whether foreign flows could stabilise.

India’s IPO Market Remains Active Despite Equity Volatility

India’s primary market continues to attract companies seeking capital even as secondary-market sentiment remains uncertain. Zetwerk’s upcoming offering is one of the prominent issues scheduled for the week, while the anticipated Jio Platforms IPO is also expected to draw attention.

More than 230 companies had raised $12.65 billion through Indian public offerings by October 7, 2026, representing an 8.3% increase over the corresponding period last year.

The IPO pipeline indicates that companies and existing investors continue to see opportunities to raise funds or monetise holdings. However, market volatility can influence issue pricing, subscription demand and listing-day performance.

For retail investors, the key considerations include a company’s financial performance, valuation, use of proceeds, competitive position and risk disclosures. A strong IPO market does not automatically mean every new issue offers attractive returns.

    Market Outlook

India’s financial markets are entering the week with a combination of improving sentiment, corporate earnings announcements and continued macroeconomic uncertainty. Zetwerk’s proposed IPO, developments involving Infosys and the upcoming results from HCL Technologies and DMart will remain important company-specific themes.

At the broader level, the RBI’s measures to support the rupee and easing crude oil prices have offered immediate relief. However, foreign investor withdrawals exceeding Rs 3 lakh crore this year remain a major concern, alongside geopolitical risks and uncertainty surrounding global interest rates.

Investors will focus on the rupee’s response to the RBI Rupee measures, additional corporate earnings and the direction of foreign investment flows. The latest market rebound is encouraging, but sustained improvement in earnings visibility, currency stability and global risk sentiment will be necessary to establish a more durable recovery.

For investors, the key indicators to monitor are corporate earnings, institutional investment flows, crude oil prices, currency movements and the outlook for interest rates. A positive market opening should be viewed in the context of these broader developments rather than as conclusive evidence that market volatility has ended.
