Finance News Today: Markets, Corporate and Retail Inflation Updates

Finance Outlook India Team | Tuesday, 13 October 2026

Indian finance news today, October 13, 2026, is dominated by rising retail inflation, fresh corporate earnings, RBI measures to stabilise the rupee and uncertainty in equity markets. HCLTech shares advanced after the IT company reported higher quarterly profit and stronger deal bookings, while RBL Bank posted a sharp rise in second-quarter earnings. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles also expanded its strategic partnership with Stellantis to develop vehicles for international markets. Meanwhile, September retail inflation accelerated to 5.54%, close to the RBI’s upper tolerance limit of 6%, raising concerns about further monetary tightening. Markets opened cautiously as investors assessed oil prices, geopolitical risks and the outlook for interest rates.

HCLTech Reports 21.2% Profit Growth in Q2

HCLTech is among the leading companies in focus after reporting a 21.2% year-on-year increase in net profit to Rs 5,132 crore for the September quarter of FY27. Consolidated revenue rose 11.5% to Rs 35,620 crore, while operating margin improved to 18.2%. The company reported new deal wins worth $3.26 billion, compared with $2.57 billion a year earlier, including a $1.14 billion contract with Mercedes-Benz. Annualised advanced artificial intelligence revenue increased 28% sequentially to $219 million.

The company raised the lower end of its FY27 revenue growth guidance to 2.5% from 1%, retaining the upper end at 4%. However, management remained cautious about demand and AI-led disruption in traditional IT services. HCLTech CEO C Vijayakumar said that they saw healthy demand towards the end of the quarter. However, the environment remains fluid. Investors will watch whether strong deal bookings and AI-related business can offset pricing pressure and weaker software demand.

RBL Bank Q2 Profit Jumps 170% to Rs 482 Crore

RBL Bank reported a 170% year-on-year increase in net profit to Rs 482 crore for the September quarter, supported by stronger net interest income and improved asset quality. Net interest income rose 37% to Rs 2,131 crore, while other income increased 15.5% to Rs 1,077 crore. Advances grew 42% year-on-year to Rs 1.42 lakh crore as of September 30, partly supported by foreign currency non-resident bank deposits.

Managing Director and CEO R Subramaniakumar of RBL Bank said that advances grew 42% including FCNR-linked lending and 30% without it. He added that the bank’s existing corporate, commercial and retail businesses were positioned to generate organic growth. Gross non-performing assets declined to 1.02% from 1.30% in the previous quarter. Investors will assess whether the improvement in profitability and asset quality can continue as the bank expands its lending operations.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Expands Stellantis Partnership

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and global automaker Stellantis have expanded their strategic partnership to include advanced technology, vehicle architecture and product development. Under the agreement announced on October 12, vehicles developed through the collaboration will be manufactured in India for more than 50 global markets.

The expanded arrangement builds on existing manufacturing relationship of Tata Motors through its Fiat India Automobiles joint venture. Stellantis will gain access to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ vehicle architecture and technologies, combining them with its own engineering and product-development capabilities.

The agreement could strengthen India’s role as a manufacturing and engineering base for international automotive markets. Investors will watch how the partnership translates into new products, export opportunities and manufacturing activity. The financial impact will depend on development costs, production plans and the eventual commercial success of the vehicles.

Bank of India Flags Rs 575.4-Crore Future Enterprises Account as Fraud

Bank of India is in focus after classifying a non-performing asset account linked to Future Enterprises, involving approximately Rs 575.4 crore, as fraud. The development was included in the list of corporate and banking updates attracting attention on October 13.

Fraud classification is significant for lenders because it can trigger regulatory reporting requirements and further recovery or legal action. For investors, the key considerations include the amount recoverable, the status of any insolvency proceedings and the possible implications for the bank’s asset quality and provisioning.

The announcement also highlights the continuing importance of monitoring stressed corporate exposures in the banking sector. The classification itself does not establish the final amount that the lender will recover; that will depend on the resolution process and any subsequent legal developments.

CreditAccess Grameen Signs $175-Million Syndicated Loan Facility

Microfinance lender CreditAccess Grameen has signed a syndicated social loan facility worth $175 million, structured as external commercial borrowing under the RBI’s automatic route, according to the latest corporate updates.

The facility provides another source of funding for the company as lenders assess borrowing costs, credit quality and liquidity conditions. For microfinance institutions, access to diversified funding can support lending operations, but growth must be balanced against repayment capacity among borrowers and the risk of stress in unsecured lending portfolios.

Investors will monitor the facility’s terms, the deployment of funds and the company’s ability to maintain asset quality. The broader microfinance sector remains sensitive to borrower indebtedness, collection efficiency and funding costs, making both capital access and disciplined lending important to sustainable growth.

Retail Inflation Rises to 5.54%, Nearing RBI’s Upper Limit

India’s retail inflation accelerated to 5.54% year-on-year in September, up from 4.83% in August and above economists’ expectations. Food inflation increased to 7.74% from 5.97%, with higher prices of essentials including onion, ginger and garlic contributing to the rise. Inflation has remained above the RBI’s medium-term target of 4% for four consecutive months.

The latest reading puts inflation closer to the RBI’s upper tolerance limit of 6% and could complicate the outlook for monetary policy. The central bank recently raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%. A weak monsoon, elevated crude prices and currency depreciation add to the inflation risks.

Alexandra Hermann Prasad, lead economist at Oxford Economics, said the firm expected two additional 25-basis-point rate hikes in December and February as price pressures broadened. This is an economist’s forecast, not an announced RBI decision.

Sensex and Nifty Open Flat as Investors Assess Inflation

Indian equities opened broadly flat on Tuesday as investors weighed rising inflation, elevated crude prices and continuing tensions in the Middle East. The Nifty 50 stood at 22,377.05, while the Sensex edged 0.05% higher to 71,957.64. Eight of the 16 major sectors recorded gains, but small-cap stocks declined 0.7% and mid-caps remained largely unchanged.

The muted opening reflects uncertainty over the outlook for interest rates and corporate earnings. HCLTech’s results provided support to the IT sector, while investors continued to assess whether higher oil prices and currency pressure could affect company margins.

Market participants will also monitor upcoming quarterly results and foreign investor activity. A sustained recovery will depend on broader participation across sectors rather than gains concentrated in a small number of stocks.

Rupee Gains 96 Paise Following RBI Measures

The Indian rupee strengthened by 96 paise to Rs 95.77 per US dollar on Monday after the RBI introduced measures to curb dollar demand and speculative positions in the foreign-exchange market. The measures included a special dollar window for public-sector oil companies and tighter restrictions relating to rupee derivatives.

The currency’s sharp recovery was one of its strongest gains in several months, but analysts cautioned that it may not last unless the underlying pressures ease. Higher crude oil prices, foreign portfolio outflows and a widening trade deficit continue to weigh on the rupee.

The Foreign Exchange Dealers’ Association of India also sought more time and clarification regarding compliance with the new restrictions. Banks have raised concerns about documentation, operational costs and the treatment of reserves required under the measures. The coming sessions will show whether the intervention delivers sustained currency stability.

Government Bond Yields Rise as Liquidity Tightens

India’s 10-year government bond yield climbed to around 7.39%, according to a report published on October 13. The increase followed the RBI’s forex rules and tighter liquidity requirements, which have raised concerns about financial conditions and the possibility of further monetary tightening.

The RBI has directed banks to maintain at least 99% of their required cash reserves with the central bank each day during a fortnight, up from 90%, effective October 16. The change is intended to strengthen daily reserve compliance but could affect the amount of liquidity banks have available for other uses.

Higher bond yields can reduce the market value of existing fixed-rate bonds, particularly longer-duration securities. Investors will therefore monitor liquidity conditions, inflation data and future RBI policy signals when assessing debt-market risks.

Crude Oil Prices and Foreign Investor Flows Remain Key Risks

Crude oil prices remain a major concern for Indian financial markets amid tensions in the Middle East and worries about supply disruptions. Brent crude has remained above $100 a barrel, adding pressure to an economy that relies heavily on imported energy. Expensive oil can increase the import bill, weaken the rupee and raise domestic costs for transport, aviation, chemicals and other energy-sensitive industries.

Foreign investor flows are another important factor. Continued overseas selling can weigh on equities and add to currency pressure, while domestic institutional purchases may help cushion market declines. Investors are also watching global bond yields and developments in the US and other major economies.

With inflation rising and the RBI adopting a tighter policy stance, crude prices and capital flows could influence both market sentiment and the future path of interest rates.

    Market Outlook

Indian markets are facing a challenging combination of rising inflation, currency volatility, elevated bond yields and geopolitical uncertainty. HCLTech’s earnings and deal wins, RBL Bank’s stronger profitability and the expanded Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles–Stellantis partnership provide company-specific developments for investors to assess. Bank of India’s classification of the Future Enterprises account and CreditAccess Grameen’s new funding facility also highlight ongoing developments in banking and finance.

At the macroeconomic level, September inflation of 5.54% increases the pressure on the RBI to keep price stability at the centre of its decisions. The rupee’s rebound following recent measures is encouraging, but its sustainability will depend on crude oil prices, capital flows and underlying foreign-exchange demand. Bond yields and liquidity conditions will also remain important indicators.

Investors will watch upcoming company results, inflation trends, oil prices and foreign institutional flows for clearer direction. Although individual companies may benefit from strong earnings or new business opportunities, the broader market outlook remains sensitive to monetary policy and external risks.
