Financial Updates Today: Markets, IPOs, and Key Corporate Developments

Finance Outlook India Team | Friday, 28 August 2026

Indian financial updates today points to a cautiously positive start on Friday, August 28, after two sessions of losses, with investors tracking the rupee, crude oil, global bond yields, Federal Reserve signals and continued volatility around the Closing Auction Session. The Nifty 50 opened 0.13% higher at 24,122.60, while the Sensex gained 0.25% to 77,128.05. However, both benchmarks remain on course for a third consecutive weekly decline after falling about 1% over the previous two sessions.

Hero MotoCorp to Increase Stake in Ather Energy

Hero MotoCorp is among the key stocks in focus after approving an investment of up to Rs 1,758 crore to acquire additional shares in electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy. The transaction will increase Hero MotoCorp’s stake from 29.88% to approximately 32.8%, further strengthening its position as Ather’s largest shareholder. The deal is expected to be completed by September 3.

The investment comes as competition intensifies in India’s electric two-wheeler market. Ather reported FY26 turnover of Rs 3,671.76 crore, compared with Rs 2,255 crore in FY25, while its recent quarterly performance showed a significant reduction in losses.

    Lenskart Faces Block Deal Pressure

Lenskart Solutions is also in focus after existing investor Alpha Wave Ventures II is expected to sell up to 1.2% of its stake through a block deal worth around Rs 1,313 crore. The proposed transaction involves approximately 2.08 crore shares, with the reported floor price at Rs 630 per share.

The stake sale could bring additional supply into the stock and will be closely watched after Lenskart’s strong performance earlier this year and its inclusion in major market indices.

Wipro Expands Google Cloud AI Partnership

Wipro has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate enterprise adoption of Gemini Enterprise and agentic artificial intelligence. The IT services company plans to empower more than 10,000 AI-certified specialists, including 1,500 Forward Deployed Engineers, with advanced AI capabilities.

Kanwar Singh, Managing Partner and Global Head of Technology Services at Wipro, said AI is “foundational” to how the company is shaping its future, adding that the expanded partnership will help clients scale outcomes and adapt faster.

Tejas Networks Gets Rs 1,537-Crore TCS Order

Tejas Networks is expected to remain in focus after receiving a Letter of Intent from Tata Consultancy Services for the supply of RAN equipment, accessories and installation materials for 18,685 sites under BSNL’s 4G network. The order is valued at Rs 1,537 crore, with the detailed purchase order expected to follow.

The order adds to Tejas Networks’ Rs 1,529-crore order book reported at the end of Q1 FY27 and reinforces the company’s position in India’s telecom equipment ecosystem.

ICICI Prudential AMC Stake Sale Completed

ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company is also on investors’ radar after Prudential Corporation Holdings completed the sale of a 1.99% stake for approximately Rs 3,030 crore through an open-market transaction. Following the sale, Prudential’s holding declined to 32.6%, while the combined promoter-group holding fell to 85.61%.

Sensex and Nifty Recover in Early Trade

Indian equities opened higher on Friday after a volatile Thursday session. The Nifty gained 0.13%, while the Sensex rose 0.25%, with 13 of 16 major sectors trading higher at the open. However, investors remain cautious following sharp movements during Thursday’s Closing Auction Session and the prospect of another weekly decline.

Rupee Expected to Stay Around Rs 95.50

The Indian rupee is expected to remain broadly stable around Rs 95.50 per US dollar. The currency has traded between Rs 95.40 and Rs 95.75 this week, with RBI intervention helping contain volatility while importer dollar demand provides resistance to a stronger rupee.

Crude Oil Remains a Key Market Variable

Oil prices are heading for a weekly decline of around 5% as diplomatic developments involving Iran and Oman have eased some concerns around the Strait of Hormuz. The decline provides some relief for India because lower crude prices can reduce pressure on the import bill, inflation and the rupee.

    Kevin Warsh Speech in Focus

Global investors are closely watching Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s upcoming speech at the Jackson Hole symposium for clues on US monetary policy. His comments could influence Treasury yields, the dollar and emerging-market assets, including Indian equities.

NSE IPO Moves Closer to Approval

SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey has indicated that the NSE IPO is nearing regulatory approval. The proposed listing could become India’s largest IPO and is expected to attract significant attention from domestic and global investors. Pandey also addressed the 30th anniversary of NSE Clearing in a SEBI speech on August 27.

    IPO Activity Remains Strong

The primary market remains active with new issues and listings. Priority Jewels opened its IPO for subscription today, August 28, while ESDS Software Solutions also opened its Rs 720-crore IPO after raising Rs 216 crore from anchor investors. Tempsens Instruments is scheduled to make its stock-market debut today, with grey-market indications pointing to strong investor interest.

    Market Outlook

Indian stock market are likely to remain event-driven and stock-specific today. Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy, Lenskart, Wipro, Tejas Networks and ICICI Prudential AMC will remain in focus on corporate developments, while investors track the rupee, crude oil, global bond yields and the upcoming Kevin Warsh speech.

The strong IPO pipeline and improving technology sentiment following Nvidia’s results provide some support, but continued foreign-flow concerns and recent volatility around the Closing Auction Session could keep investors cautious.
