India's Gem & Jewellery Exports Jump 26%: What It Means for FY27

India's Gem & Jewellery Exports Jump 26%: What It Means for FY27

Finance Outlook India Team | Monday, 20 July 2026

India's gem and jewelry exports rose 26.51% in June, driven by strong demand for gold jewelry and steady growth in diamond shipments. The strong performance also offers an encouraging outlook for FY27 as global demand shows signs of recovery.

    Highlights:

    • Gold jewelry accounted for the biggest export surge, with shipments rising 54.5 percent as overseas demand strengthened.
    • India's jewelry exports crossed Rs 21,000 crore in June, signaling a recovery in global buying after months of weak demand.

Total exports reached Rs 21,010.78 crore ($2.21 billion) during the month. Gross imports also increased 10.06 percent to Rs 16,330.63 crore ($1.72 billion).

The latest figures suggest overseas demand is improving after a prolonged slowdown. Industry experts say better global economic stability has encouraged buyers to return to the market.

Gold Jewelry Emerges as the Biggest Growth Driver

Gold jewelry remained the strongest contributor to export growth in June. Exports climbed 54.5 percent year-on-year to $1.09 billion (Rs 10,330.51 crore).

Studded gold jewelry led the rally with an 85.35 percent jump in exports. Plain gold jewelry exports also grew 25.34 percent during the month.

Demand for gold medallions and coins remained strong in the April-June quarter. Exports rose 86.42 percent, reflecting continued investor preference for gold as a hedge against inflation.

Industry experts believe improving buyer confidence has supported the recovery. However, they also cautioned that geopolitical risks could influence export demand in the coming months.

Diamond Shipments Add Strength Despite Quarterly Challenges

India's cut and polished diamond exports increased 8.71 percent in June to Rs 8,039.30 crore. The rise helped strengthen overall export performance during the month.

However, diamond exports for the April-June quarter declined 4.13 percent in value. Despite that, export volumes grew 8.98 percent to 3.988 million carats, indicating healthy shipment activity.

Silver and platinum jewelry exports also recorded growth of 20-27 percent during the first quarter. The broader performance suggests demand is gradually improving across multiple jewelry categories.
