Indian Finance News Today: Key Markets and Corporate Updates

Finance Outlook India Team | Friday, 04 September 2026

Indian finance news today points out market recovery on Friday morning after four consecutive sessions of losses, with GIFT Nifty pointing to a stronger opening. Investors are tracking Gland Pharma, Power Grid, Rail Vikas Nigam, Cipla, Bharat Forge and UltraTech Cement, along with fresh corporate developments and IPO listings. At the broader level, crude oil near $96 a barrel, Middle East tensions, rupee movements, foreign fund flows and US Federal Reserve rate expectations remain key market drivers. The Nifty 50 and Sensex have recently come under pressure from higher oil prices and bond yields, although softer expectations of a September US rate hike are providing some relief.

Gland Pharma in Focus on Stake-sale Report

Gland Pharma is among the stocks to watch today after reports of a potential stake sale by Fosun Pharma Industrial. The proposed transaction could involve around a 5% stake and is expected to attract institutional investor attention. The company has also been holding meetings with investment funds this week following its strong Q1 FY27 performance and its continuing transition towards a higher-margin contract manufacturing model.

Power Grid Wins Major Transmission Project

Power Grid Corporation of India is in focus after winning a major transmission project associated with the Lakadia Renewable Energy Zone in Gujarat. The project will strengthen the transmission network required to evacuate renewable power and adds to Power Grid’s growing project pipeline. The development is significant as India continues to expand renewable-energy generation and transmission infrastructure.

RVNL Bags Rs 405-crore Railway Order

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd has emerged as the lowest bidder for a railway project worth around Rs 404.88 crore from East Coast Railway. The project involves third-line construction, bridges, track linking and related railway infrastructure and has an execution period of 30 months. RVNL shares opened higher on Friday after the order announcement, keeping the railway infrastructure company firmly on the market-watch list.

    Cipla Enters US Biosimilar Partnership

Cipla is another stock in focus after entering into an exclusive licensing and supply agreement with Qilu Pharmaceutical for a biosimilar of Keytruda for the US market. The agreement expands Cipla’s presence in the US biosimilars segment and adds another potential growth opportunity to its specialty pharmaceutical portfolio.

Bharat Forge and Other Stocks in Focus

Bharat Forge is also being monitored after its subsidiary entered into an agreement with France-based FN Herstal. The development comes amid a broader flow of defence and industrial announcements involving Indian companies. Other stocks appearing on Friday’s watch lists include UltraTech Cement, Sterlite Technologies, Ceigall India, IEX and Avalon Technologies.

    Sensex and Nifty Eye Recovery

Indian benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, are attempting to recover after four consecutive sessions of losses. The latest market reports show that Indian shares opened higher on Friday, with the Nifty gaining around 0.23% and the Sensex rising around 0.66% in early trade. The improvement follows a strong rally on Wall Street and reduced expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate hike in September.

    Fed Rate-hike Expectations Ease

US Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller has indicated that he could support keeping interest rates unchanged if inflationary pressures continue to ease. Following his comments, market expectations of a September rate hike declined to around 50% from 63% previously. The shift is positive for emerging-market assets, including Indian equities and currencies.

Crude Oil Remains a Major Risk

Brent crude remains close to $96 per barrel, putting energy prices at the centre of India’s market outlook. Oil prices have been supported by geopolitical tensions and concerns over supply disruptions. For India, sustained high crude prices can increase the import bill, put pressure on the rupee and create additional inflationary risks.

    Rupee Outlook Remains Important

The rupee continues to be closely watched as investors assess crude prices, foreign flows and US monetary-policy expectations. A softer dollar and changing Fed-rate expectations could provide some support to the currency, although elevated oil prices remain a negative factor. RBI measures and foreign-currency flows will therefore remain important for currency-market stability.

    IPO listings Draw Investor Attention

The primary market remains active, with ESDS Software Solution and Priority Jewels scheduled to make their stock-market debuts today. ESDS Software’s IPO has generated particularly strong investor interest, with grey-market indications pointing towards substantial potential listing gains. Priority Jewels also received more than 100 times subscription, while its latest GMP suggested a potential premium of around 14%.

    Market Outlook

Indian stock market today is likely to remain volatile and stock-specific today, although the positive opening provides some relief after the recent sell-off. Gland Pharma, Power Grid, RVNL, Cipla and Bharat Forge will remain among the key stocks to watch, while investors also track IPO listings and fresh corporate announcements.

On the macroeconomic front, crude oil, Middle East developments, the rupee, FII flows, global bond yields and US Federal Reserve expectations will remain crucial. The easing probability of a September Fed rate hike and stronger global equities could support Indian markets, but elevated oil prices remain a significant risk for the domestic economy.
