Indian Finance Updates Today: Key Market & Company News

Finance Outlook India Team | Friday, 31 July 2026

Indian finance updates today are being driven by stronger global cues, renewed foreign buying, a softer crude-oil outlook, a firmer rupee and a packed Q1 FY27 earnings calendar, with the Sensex and Nifty poised for a positive start. GIFT Nifty was at 24,420.5, indicating a higher opening above Thursday’s Nifty close of 24,317.15. Both the Nifty 50 and Sensex have gained about 1.9% in July and are on track for their second consecutive monthly gain of 2026. Foreign investors bought Rs 3,624 crore of Indian equities on Thursday, taking July inflows to around $1.6 billion, while Brent crude eased 0.9%, providing some relief to India’s oil-import bill. On the corporate side, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Swiggy, Bajaj Finance and AWL Agri Business remain among the stocks in focus following their latest earnings and corporate developments. At the same time, Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharma, ITC, GAIL India and Dixon Technologies are among the major companies scheduled to report results today, making corporate earnings a central market trigger this morning.

Vedanta Names Arun Misra as CEO After Strong Q1

Vedanta is among the biggest corporate stories this morning after reporting a 72% year-on-year jump in consolidated Q1 FY27 net profit to Rs 5,473 crore. Revenue increased 51% to Rs 23,456 crore, supported by higher prices for zinc, copper and silver. Vedanta also appointed Arun Misra as CEO for a one-year term beginning August 1. Arun Misra currently heads Vedanta subsidiary Hindustan Zinc and will move into the group CEO role from today. Vedanta’s strong results have added to the positive momentum in the metals sector, with the company’s shares gaining after the announcement.

Tata Steel Beats Profit Estimates, Plans Rs 33,873 Crore Capex

Tata Steel reported a better-than-expected Q1 performance, with consolidated net profit attributable to owners rising to about Rs 2,318 crore, while revenue increased 14% year-on-year. Stronger Indian operations and improved steel prices supported the performance. The company has also approved a Rs 33,873-crore capital expenditure plan, with investment targeted at expanding capacity at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd. The large investment plan keeps Tata Steel in focus as investors assess domestic steel demand and the company’s expansion strategy.

Swiggy Narrows Q1 Loss as Revenue Climbs 37%

Swiggy reported a significant improvement in its Q1 FY27 financial performance, with its consolidated net loss narrowing around 34% year-on-year to Rs 791 crore, while revenue increased 37%. The improvement comes as the company continues to focus on food delivery and quick-commerce operations, particularly Instamart. The company’s quick-commerce business also reached contribution-margin breakeven during the quarter, an important milestone for investors tracking its path towards profitability.

Swiggy Food CEO Rohit Kapoor said, "Affordability will drive the next phase of food-delivery growth." Commenting on the competitive landscape, Kapoor also questioned whether zero-commission models can remain sustainable, arguing that platforms ultimately need to recover the cost of operating a marketplace.

Bajaj Finance Reports Strong Q1 Profit Growth

Bajaj Finance reported a strong Q1 FY27 performance, with consolidated net profit rising 27.4% year-on-year to Rs 5,986 crore, beating market expectations. Net interest income increased 23% to Rs 12,571 crore, while assets under management rose 23% to Rs 4,00,389 crore. The results are significant for India’s financial sector as investors continue to track consumer-credit growth, asset quality and margins across non-banking financial companies.

The company’s investor presentation described the quarter as “an excellent quarter across all key metrics,” reflecting management’s positive assessment of the earnings performance.

AWL Agri Business Profit Jumps 48%

AWL Agri Business is also in focus after reporting a 48.2% year-on-year rise in Q1 profit, helped by stronger demand for food and oil products. The performance puts the company among the notable FMCG names to watch this morning. Investors will be looking at the company’s edible-oil business, food-product demand and margins as the company continues to expand its branded consumer portfolio.

Sensex and Nifty Set for Positive Opening

Indian benchmark indices are expected to open higher today, supported by stronger Asian markets and gains on Wall Street. GIFT Nifty’s morning signal pointed to an opening above Thursday’s close. The Nifty and Sensex have already gained around 1.9% in July, putting both benchmarks on track for a second straight monthly gain.

Foreign Investors Return to Indian Equities

Foreign buying has emerged as an important support for Indian equities. FPIs bought approximately Rs 3,624 crore of Indian shares on Thursday, taking their purchases over the previous two sessions to about $864 million and July’s total to approximately $1.6 billion. The renewed inflows are helping improve sentiment after months of foreign selling earlier in the year.

    Rupee Set for Stronger Opening

The Indian rupee is expected to strengthen against the US dollar this morning, supported by a weaker dollar and softer oil prices. The currency closed at Rs 95.68 per dollar on Thursday and is expected to open around Rs 95.50-Rs 95.55. The rupee has gained about 0.9% this week, its strongest weekly performance in four months, with RBI intervention also supporting the currency.

Crude Oil Eases, Offering Relief to India

Brent crude prices fell around 0.9% in early Friday trading, providing a positive signal for India, one of the world’s largest oil importers. Lower crude prices can ease pressure on India’s import bill, inflation and corporate input costs. However, geopolitical developments involving the US, Iran and the Red Sea continue to make oil prices vulnerable to sudden movements.

Heavy Q1 Earnings Calendar Keeps Stocks in Focus

The earnings season remains the biggest domestic trigger today. Maruti Suzuki, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, ITC, GAIL India, Bajaj Finserv, ABB India, National Aluminium Company and Dixon Technologies are among the companies scheduled to announce Q1 FY27 results. Maruti Suzuki is expected to report strong revenue growth on higher vehicle volumes, although analysts are watching whether rising commodity costs and discounts pressure margins. Dixon Technologies is also scheduled to hold its earnings call today, with investors expected to focus on margins, mobile manufacturing growth, EMS orders and management guidance.

    Morning Market Outlook

The early setup for Indian markets is positive, supported by global equity gains, foreign investor buying, a softer crude outlook and a recovering rupee. However, geopolitical tensions and currency volatility remain risks. With major companies reporting results today and both the Sensex and Nifty approaching the end of July with gains of around 1.9%, investors are likely to focus heavily on Q1 earnings, management commentary, foreign flows and global market cues before deciding the next direction of Indian equities.
