Indian financial markets are facing a cautious session on Wednesday as rising crude oil prices, weak global cues and continued geopolitical uncertainty weigh on investor sentiment. The Nifty 50 slipped below 24,500 on Tuesday, while GIFT Nifty indicated a muted opening for Wednesday. Crude oil has moved close to the $90-a-barrel mark, raising concerns for India’s import bill, inflation and the rupee. At the same time, foreign institutional investors remained net buyers on Tuesday, purchasing Rs 258.55 crore of Indian equities, while domestic institutional investors also reported net buying.

The company’s commercial vehicle business recorded total Q1 FY27 sales of 1,08,488 units, up 27% year-on-year, with domestic commercial vehicle sales increasing 26% and electric vehicle volumes rising sharply. Tata Motors is scheduled to discuss its results with investors later today, with Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh and CFO GV Ramanan expected to participate in the earnings call.
HAL, Grasim and Lenskart Among Key Earnings
Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), Grasim Industries, Lenskart, IRCTC, VA Tech Wabag and GMR Airports are also scheduled to announce their Q1 FY27 results today. The heavy earnings calendar is expected to keep trading stock-specific, with investors focusing on revenue growth, margins, order books and management guidance.

Shiprocket IPO Opens Today

Manappuram Finance Results in Focus
Manappuram Finance remains on investors’ radar after reporting a strong Q1 performance. Consolidated profit rose nearly fourfold to Rs 585 crore, while total income reached Rs 3,040 crore and assets under management increased 57% to Rs 69,635 crore. The company also declared an interim dividend of 50%.
Markets Face Pressure From Rising Crude
The rise in crude oil prices is one of the biggest concerns for Indian markets today. Brent crude has moved close to $90 a barrel as uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz and West Asia continues. Higher oil prices can increase India’s import bill and put pressure on inflation, the rupee and corporate margins, particularly for oil-sensitive sectors.
GIFT Nifty Signals Muted Opening
GIFT Nifty indicated a cautious start for Indian benchmark indices after Tuesday’s decline. The Nifty closed at 24,471.70 on Tuesday, down 112.10 points, while investors continue to assess global market weakness, crude prices and the upcoming earnings announcements.
Foreign Investors Turn Net Buyers
Foreign portfolio investors bought Rs 258.55 crore of Indian equities on August 11, marking another session of net buying. Domestic institutional investors were also net buyers, though the scale of domestic purchases was comparatively smaller. The fresh FII buying provides some support to the market amid broader volatility.

The IPO, which comprised a Rs 480-crore fresh issue and a Rs 2,000-crore offer for sale, was subscribed multiple times during the bidding period. Market Outlook
Indian markets are likely to remain volatile and stock-specific today, with Tata Motors, HAL, Grasim, Lenskart, IRCTC and other companies reporting Q1 results. Shiprocket’s IPO will add another major primary-market event, while L&T’s digital infrastructure restructuring and Manappuram Finance’s strong earnings could drive individual stocks.
The broader market, however, remains sensitive to crude oil, global geopolitical developments and foreign fund flows. With oil close to $90 a barrel and the Nifty already slipping below 24,500, investors are likely to maintain a cautious approach while waiting for corporate earnings and global cues to provide clearer direction.
