The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has just acknowledged a severe security compromise employing deepfake technology. The NSE discovered a deepfake video that effectively portrayed its MD and CEO, Ashishkumar Chauhan.
This manufactured film, which was widely shared on social media platforms, contains misleading information designed to deceive investors and manipulate the stock market. The deepfake's realism confused investors.
In reaction to the security incident, the NSE has chosen to collaborate with cybersecurity specialists to improve its digital security measures.
Furthermore, the NSE has launched a thorough investigation to determine the origins of the deepfake video and is working with law authorities to identify the perpetrators.
This is not the first time that deepfake technology has been exploited to scam innocent individuals. In a similar situation, famed cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was spotted advertising an internet game. He revealed that it was a deepfake. Bollywood actors and actresses have also become victims of the deepfake epidemic.
One of the first incidents included actress Rashmika Mandanna, whose visage was placed on that of a social media star. Similar incidents were reported with actresses Katrina Kaif and Kajol.
