Jio Marks 9th Anniversary with Free Data Offers as Subscriber Hits 500 Mn

Finance Outlook India Team | Thursday, 04 September 2025

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, has announced a series of promotional offers to mark its ninth anniversary and crossing the milestone of 500 million users. The initiatives are expected to strengthen subscriber stickiness and support average revenue per user (ARPU) growth ahead of its planned IPO.

    Key Highlights

    • Jio grants one month of unlimited data via its ₹349+ plan and free weekend data for 5G users.
    • The promotions mark a strategic effort to reinforce subscriber stickiness and ARPU ahead of the expected IPO.

From September 5 to October 5, Jio users on plans priced at ₹349 and above will receive one month of unlimited data, bundled with entertainment and app subscriptions. Currently, Jio provides unlimited 5G data only to 5G smartphone users on higher-value plans.

In a broader push for customer retention, the company will also extend unlimited free data to all 5G smartphone users over the September 5–7 weekend, regardless of plan value. Additionally, 4G users can access unlimited weekend data for ₹39, with a 3GB high-speed cap.

Jio is also offering a free 13th-month recharge for subscribers who complete 12 timely monthly recharges of ₹349 or more, and a two-month complimentary service under its ₹1,200 JioHome Connection plan.

These offers, while promotional in nature, underline Jio’s strategy to consolidate market leadership, drive recurring revenues, and expand its digital ecosystem ahead of a potential market listing.
