Latest Finance Updates: Q2 Results, Markets, and Business News Today

Finance Outlook India Team | Thursday, 15 October 2026

Indian latest finance updates today, Thursday, October 15, is being driven by major corporate announcements, second-quarter earnings and continued pressure from inflation and crude oil prices. Jio Platforms has filed its red herring prospectus for a proposed Rs 30,213-crore IPO, while the government has approved Fairfax Financial Holdings’ Rs 52,878-crore bid for a controlling stake in IDBI Bank. CEAT’s quarterly results have highlighted the impact of rising raw-material costs, while Tata Technologies and HDB Financial Services have reported mixed-to-positive earnings developments. In the currency market, the Reserve Bank of India’s measures continue to influence the rupee, while hotter-than-expected US inflation is limiting investor confidence in global matkets.

Jio Platforms Files IPO Papers for Rs 30,213 Crore Issue

Jio Platforms, the digital services holding company of Reliance Industries, has filed its red herring prospectus for an initial public offering expected to open on October 21 and close on October 23. The issue is expected to raise approximately Rs 30,213 crore through a fresh issue of up to 270 million shares, with a reported price band of Rs 1,065–Rs 1,119 per share.

The proposed IPO could value Jio Platforms at approximately Rs 10.3 lakh crore at the upper end of the price band, making it one of the largest public offerings in India. The offer includes a reservation for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders and employees. Proceeds are expected to support the company’s stated objectives, including the repayment of certain borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm.

The filing is a significant development for India’s primary market and could increase investor attention on telecom, digital services and technology businesses. Investors will assess the offer documents, valuation, financial performance and use of proceeds before making investment decisions.

IDBI Bank Stake Sale to Fairfax Gets Cabinet Approval

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the sale of a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank to Fairfax Financial Holdings for Rs 52,878 crore. The transaction combines the government’s 30.48% stake with Life Insurance Corporation of India’s 30.24% holding. The deal is expected to be completed by March 2027, subject to the required processes and approvals.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman described the move as a restructuring rather than a complete government exit, noting that the government would retain a minority stake. The transaction is being positioned as a major foreign investment in India’s financial sector.

Fairfax, led by Prem Watsa, will become the controlling shareholder after completion. The transaction will be watched for its implications for IDBI Bank’s governance, lending strategy and future expansion, as well as for the government’s disinvestment receipts. Employee concerns and regulatory requirements will also remain important considerations during the transition.

CEAT Q2 Profit Falls 39.8% as Raw-Material Costs Rise

Tyre manufacturer CEAT reported a 39.8% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 112 crore for Q2 FY27, even as revenue from operations increased 26.2% to Rs 4,762 crore. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation fell 9.1% to Rs 457 crore, while the EBITDA margin contracted to 9.6% from 13.3% a year earlier.

The company attributed the margin pressure to elevated raw-material costs amid continuing geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia. Managing Director and CEO Arnab Banerjee said that the company sustained double-digit revenue growth, supported by momentum in premium segments across its business units. He also noted that higher input costs continued to pose challenges, prompting tighter cost controls and disciplined execution.

Chief Financial Officer Kumar Subbiah said commodity costs remained high and indicated that cost pressures could persist into the December quarter. CEAT plans to pursue calibrated pricing actions and improve its product mix while continuing capacity investments. Investors will monitor whether the company can protect margins while maintaining sales growth.

Tata Technologies Reports Higher Revenue but Lower Profit

Tata Technologies reported a 5.2% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 171.4 crore for the September quarter, even as revenue from operations rose 28.4% to Rs 1,698.8 crore. The results highlight a divergence between the company’s revenue growth and bottom-line performance.

Services remained an important contributor, with reported growth in the segment helping support overall revenue. Investors will assess whether the company can convert higher sales into stronger earnings through improved operating efficiency, a favourable business mix and cost management.

The results come amid continued investor focus on technology and engineering services companies, where demand for digital transformation, product engineering and technology solutions can support growth, but margins remain sensitive to operating expenses and project mix. Further management commentary and the company’s outlook will be important in assessing the sustainability of its performance.

HDB Financial Services Reports 34.2% Profit Growth

HDB Financial Services reported a 34.2% increase in net profit to Rs 780 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, compared with Rs 581 crore in the year-ago period. The non-banking financial company benefited from stronger loan demand and lower provisions.

Net interest income increased 15.5% to Rs 2,534 crore from Rs 2,193 crore. The company’s board also declared an interim dividend of Rs 2 per equity share, with a face value of Rs 10.

The results will be assessed alongside the lender’s loan growth, asset quality, borrowing costs and credit-risk management. Stronger profit growth can support sentiment towards the company, although investors will also need to evaluate whether lower provisions and improved lending demand can be sustained in subsequent quarters.

Sensex and Nifty Edge Higher as IT Stocks Lead

Indian equities opened marginally higher on Thursday, with the Nifty 50 rising 0.27% to 22,683.30 and the BSE Sensex gaining 0.32% to 73,030.04. IST. Information technology stocks led the gains, with the Nifty IT index advancing 1.5% and extending its three-session rise to approximately 7.8%.

The IT sector’s strength followed encouraging results from HCLTech earlier in the week. However, the broader market remained mixed: nine of the 16 major sectors were lower at the open, while small-cap and mid-cap indices declined 0.7% and 0.2%, respectively.

The market’s cautious tone reflects the balance between company earnings and global macroeconomic risks. Investors will watch whether IT-sector strength spreads to other industries or remains concentrated in a small group of stocks.

Rupee in Focus as RBI Continues Support Measures

The rupee is expected to open stronger on Thursday after settling at Rs 95.15 per US dollar on Wednesday. Traders expected an opening range of Rs 95.02–Rs 95.06, supported by a pullback in US Treasury yields and the RBI’s recent steps to curb dollar demand.

The RBI has introduced measures that include a special dollar window for state-run oil marketing companies, restrictions involving foreign-exchange derivatives and direct dollar sales. The objective is to reduce excessive volatility and speculative positioning in the currency market.

A currency trader quoted by Reuters described the RBI’s message as “unmistakable” in its intent to arrest the rupee’s slide. However, the currency’s recovery may face resistance around Rs 95 per dollar, and sustained improvement will depend on oil prices, foreign investment flows and global dollar movements.

US Inflation Data Raises Concerns About Interest Rates

Higher-than-expected US consumer inflation for September has renewed concerns about global monetary conditins. Although expectations of a Federal Reserve rate increase initially rose sharply after the data, they subsequently retreated as US Treasury yields pulled back.

Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone, said the reversal in yields deserved attention, noting that sticky inflation and higher-for-longer interest rates could intensify pressure on households and the wider economy.

For Indian markets, global interest-rate expectations matter because they can affect foreign capital flows, bond yields, currency movements and investor appetite for emerging-market assets. Investors will monitor further US economic data and Federal Reserve commentary for clues about the direction of global financial conditions.

Crude Oil and Bond Yields Remain Key Risks

Elevated crude oil prices continue to complicate India’s inflation and currency outlook. Higher energy costs can increase the import bill, put pressure on the rupee and raise operating expenses for industries such as aviation, paints, chemicals and logistics.

Indian government bond yields have also climbed, with the benchmark 10-year yield reaching around 7.40% on Wednesday, its highest level in roughly three years, according to market reports. The rise has reflected higher oil prices, inflation concerns and the RBI’s tighter policy stance.

Higher yields can increase borrowing costs for governments and businesses and affect the market value of existing bonds. Investors will therefore watch energy prices, inflation data and central-bank signals for indications of whether financial conditions will tighten further.

Q2 Earnings Calendar Keeps Wipro, Nestlé India and Jio Financial in Focus

The September-quarter earnings season remains a major market trigger. Companies scheduled to report results on October 15 include Wipro, Nestlé India, Jio Financial Services, Tech Mahindra, Polycab India, HDFC Life Insurance, HDFC Asset Management Company, Persistent Systems and several banks and financial services businesses.

These are scheduled announcements, so their results should not be treated as confirmed until the companies release their figures. Investors will focus on revenue growth, profit margins, order pipelines, credit quality and management guidance.

The results could influence individual stocks and broader sector sentiment, particularly in IT, banking, insurance, consumer goods and manufacturing. With global conditions uncertain, investors are likely to pay close attention to the quality and sustainability of earnings rather than headline growth

    Market Outlook

Indian markets are navigating a mix of corporate opportunities and macroeconomic pressure. The proposed Jio Platforms IPO and the IDBI Bank stake sale are significant developments for India’s capital markets and financial sector. CEAT’s results highlight the effect of higher input costs on profitability, while Tata Technologies and HDB Financial Services offer contrasting signals on earnings performance.

At the broader level, the RBI rupee measures, crude oil prices, US inflation and bond yields will remain important market drivers. IT stocks have supported the latest opening, but weakness in smaller stocks suggests that investor confidence is not yet broad-based. The next phase of trading will depend on company earnings, global interest-rate expectations and whether the rupee can stabilise without creating additional financial-market pressures.

For investors, the immediate focus should remain on verified earnings, corporate disclosures and changes in macroeconomic conditions rather than assuming that one positive market session signals a sustained recovery.
