Indian latest finance updates points out markets in focus today as equities opened largely flat after the US Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points, while the National Stock Exchange IPO opened for subscription. The Nifty 50 was down around 0.1% and the Sensex slipped 0.21% in early trade, with elevated crude oil prices and the prospect of further US rate hikes keeping investors cautious. The rupee also remained under pressure near Rs 96 against the US dollar. On the corporate side, Tata Sons, Shriram Finance, Infosys, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders and Fortis Healthcare are among the companies attracting attention, while several newly listed companies are making their market debut today.
Tata Sons Board Meets Amid RBI Listing Issue
Tata Sons is at the centre of corporate India today as its board meets to discuss the Reserve Bank of India’s recent decision rejecting the company’s application to surrender its NBFC registration. The RBI decision has brought the possibility of a mandatory stock-market listing back into focus.
The board meeting is also expected to discuss succession plans of Chairman N Chandrasekaran, with his current term scheduled to end in February 2027. Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata is reportedly expected to argue for keeping Tata Sons private and unlisted, while the listing question remains a major regulatory issue for the holding company.
The issue is significant for listed Tata companies because Tata Sons is the holding company of the wider Tata Group and owns stakes in several listed businesses. The outcome of the board discussions could therefore remain an important corporate-market development.
Shriram Finance Plans $500 Million Bond Buyback
Shriram Finance is reportedly preparing a $500 million bond buyback, potentially as early as next week. The proposed tender would cover bonds maturing in April 2027 and April 2028 and could be offered at a slight premium to their current trading price.
The move is aimed at reducing borrowing costs as the company benefits from lower funding costs and an improved credit profile following Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s acquisition of a 20% stake in Shriram Finance earlier this year. The company is reportedly targeting savings of at least 75 basis points by replacing the bonds with cheaper funding.
The company had not responded to a request for comment by publication time, so no current Shriram Finance management quote has been independently confirmed.
Infosys Remains in Focus Amid IT Sector Pressure
Infosys is among the IT stocks being watched today as Indian technology companies face pressure from higher US interest rates and concerns around corporate technology spending. The Nifty IT index fell around 0.5% in early trading, with the US remaining a key market for Indian IT services companies.
Infosys has also scheduled its next board meeting for October 22 and 23, according to its investor filings. The company remains closely tracked by investors as the sector navigates changing global technology demand and the impact of higher interest rates.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders in Focus
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders is another stock in focus today following a new memorandum of understanding/agreement disclosure under the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements framework.
The defence shipbuilder has remained closely watched amid India’s continuing expansion of domestic defence manufacturing and naval capabilities. The company’s recent announcements and order pipeline have kept it on the radar of market participants. Its latest exchange disclosure was dated September 17.
Fortis Healthcare and Other Stocks in Focus
Fortis Healthcare is among the companies being tracked by investors today, alongside Mazagon Dock, Infosys, Shriram Finance, RBL Bank and South Indian Bank. The stocks are part of the broader list of companies with corporate developments or market triggers entering Thursday’s trading session.
Meanwhile, Tempsens Instruments India has also reported strong first-quarter numbers, with consolidated profit rising 14.2% year-on-year to Rs 15.2 crore, while revenue increased 33.4% to Rs 118.7 crore. The company is therefore among the stocks attracting attention from investors following its latest financial update.
Fed Raises Interest Rates by 25 Basis Points
The US Federal Reserve has raised interest rates by 25 basis points, marking its first rate increase in more than three years. The decision is particularly important for emerging markets such as India because higher US rates can influence foreign investment flows, the dollar and borrowing costs.
The Fed’s updated projections also indicated that 16 of its 18 policymakers expect at least one additional 25-basis-point increase by the end of the year. This has increased attention on the rupee and foreign institutional flows in Indian markets.

Eight of the 16 major sectors were trading lower. IT stocks were particularly weak, while mid- and small-cap indices remained broadly flat. Investors are assessing the implications of the Fed’s rate decision alongside domestic corporate and IPO developments.
Rupee Crosses Rs 96 Against Dollar
The Indian rupee opened at Rs 96.01 against the US dollar on Thursday, weakening six paise from its previous close of ₹95.95. The currency has remained under pressure amid elevated oil prices, dollar demand and expectations of tighter US monetary policy.
The rupee had remained at Rs 95.95 on Wednesday with support from RBI dollar sales, although oil companies and importers continued to generate demand for the US currency.
NSE IPO Opens Today
The much-awaited NSE IPO opens for subscription today, September 17, and will remain open until September 21. The price band has been fixed at Rs 1,700–Rs 1,785 per share.
The issue is an offer for sale by existing shareholders and is expected to be one of India’s largest public offerings. NSE also raised ₹6,746 crore from anchor investors ahead of the IPO, with institutions including LIC, Goldman Sachs and Fidelity participating in the anchor book.
The IPO is particularly significant for India’s capital markets because NSE is the country’s largest stock exchange by several key measures and its public listing has been anticipated for years.
Multiple IPOs and New Listings Today
The primary market remains active alongside the NSE issue. Six mainboard companies - Rentomojo, Karamtara Engineering, Steamhouse India, LCC Projects, Asset Reconstruction Company India and Manipal Payment & Identity Solutions - are scheduled to list today after collectively raising about Rs 4,510 crore through their IPOs.
Three SME companies - Vinod Texworld, Amtech Esters and Infrax Renewable - are also making their stock-market debuts today, collectively raising approximately Rs 101.59 crore.
Market Outlook
Indian stock market today is entering Thursday’s session amid a mix of domestic corporate developments and global monetary-policy signals. The Fed’s 25-basis-point rate hike, indications of another potential increase, elevated crude prices and a rupee near Rs 96 are likely to remain important factors for investors.
At the same time, the NSE IPO represents a major event for India’s primary market, while the Tata Sons board meeting could generate further developments around the holding company’s listing and leadership transition. Investors are also tracking Shriram Finance, Infosys, Mazagon Dock and Fortis Healthcare alongside a busy calendar of IPO listings and corporate actions.
