MSMEs in Tier II % III cities witness 20% revenue surge after onboarding onto ONDC

Finance Outlook India Team | Monday, 12 May 2025

MSMEs in Tier II and III cities have recorded an average 20 percent revenue increase following integration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The data from Easy Pay highlights growth patterns among businesses that joined the platform through the company's onboarding services. Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra were the top three states with maximum number of MSMEs onboarding on to the ONDC platform.

In the past year, Easy Pay has witnessed a massive increase in MSME onboarding onto the ONDC platform and is on track to integrate over 100 thousand businesses by FY 2026-27.

"Our mission is simple – to make digital commerce truly inclusive," said Nilay Patel, Founder and Managing Director of Easy Pay. "We believe that every MSME, no matter how small or remote, should have equal access to the tools and opportunities of the digital economy. ONDC is a game-changer in that journey, and we're here to ensure that small businesses get onboarded and flourish. From storefront creation to payments and analytics, we make the transition seamless, sustainable, and scalable."

The impact of ONDC integration shows across smaller cities. For instance, a jewellery store in Pune city reported a doubling of orders and income within months of onboarding. "Earlier, our reach was limited to just our neighbourhood. We never imagined people from outside the city would find and trust our products. Today, due, we're receiving orders from across different states. Our daily order volume has doubled in just three months, and we're finally competing on a level playing field," shared the owner.

In another case, a chips seller from Rajasthan set an ONDC record by selling 1,200 packets within an hour during a city campaign. "Enabled by seamless inventory sync, real-time order management, and simple payment acceptance, we achieved a scale of operation that was previously unimaginable for a neighbourhood business. For the first time, we felt like we were competing on a national stage," he noted.

Easy Pay's approach to MSME enablement includes door-to-door outreach through field agents, vernacular workshops for businesses, on-demand digital support, and solution suite with storefront creation, payment integration, capital access, and analytics. This approach works in Tier II and Tier III towns, where technology adoption faces cultural and infrastructural challenges.

Easy Pay aims to expand rural and semi-urban reach and onboard 50,000 MSMEs by the end of FY 2025-26. The company continues to scale, making digital commerce accessible for businesses across India.

"Our collaboration with ONDC demonstrates that commerce can be democratic, decentralized, and powered by small-town India," added Patel. "We're committed to serving as a true lifeline for small businesses as they navigate the digital economy."
