In fiscal 2025, total assets managed by the mutual fund (MF) industry increased by 23%, or Rs 12.3 lakh crore, to Rs 65.7 lakh crore. According to data released by industry trade body AMFI, approximately Rs 8 lakh crore came from fresh inflows, with the remainder due to mark-to-market gains.
At the end of FY25, the total number of folios had risen to nearly 23.5 crore, an all-time high. AMFI data showed that 16.4 crore were invested in equity funds and 1.6 crore in hybrid funds.
Last fiscal year, the average monthly systematic investment plan (SIP) contribution increased by 45% to Rs 24,113 crore, up from Rs 16,602 crore in FY 24.
"The steady increase in SIP flows demonstrates retail investors' growing maturity in understanding the importance of systematic and disciplined investing, as well as their trust in mutual funds as a core component of their financial planning," said Venkat Chalasani, CEO of AMFI.
Monthly gross inflows through the SIP route, however, fell marginally in March, to Rs 25,926 crore from Rs 25,999 crore in February. The drop in flows in March occurred despite the fact that some SIP flows from February spilled over to this month because February was a shorter month with some monthly mandates shifted to March 30th and 31st.
During the month, debt funds experienced a net outflow of Rs 2.02 lakh crore, with Rs 1.33 lakh crore coming from liquid funds and another Rs 30,015 crore coming from overnight funds.
