Nirmala Sitharaman Leads Second Pre-budget Session with Experts in Finance and Capital Markets

On June 20, in New Delhi, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman presided over the second pre-Budget meeting with eminent professionals from the finance and capital markets domain, in relation to the upcoming Union Budget 2024–25.

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, the Finance Secretary, the Secretaries of the Department of Expenditure; the Departments of Economic Affairs, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), the Department of Revenue of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Corporate Affairs, and the Chief Economic Adviser were also present at the pre-Budget consultation meeting.

On June 19, Sitharaman presided over the first round of pre-Budget talks with prominent economists over the upcoming General Budget 2024–25 in New Delhi.

"The first pre-budget meeting has been convened. Prominent national economists were present at the conference and provided input on the budget, economist Ashwani Mahajan told PTI.

It is quite probable that the Union Budget 2024–25 will be unveiled in the latter part of July.

Sitharaman will be making her eighth consecutive budget presentation. She is about to make history by breaking the record held by the late finance minister Morarji Desai, who presented the budget six times in a row. She already holds the distinction of being the only female finance minister to hold the position for two terms in a row.

She will likely present the FY25 Budget, which will support the Modi 3.0 government's emphasis on "Viksit Bharat." Sitharaman pledged continued efforts on behalf of the government to raise the standard of living for its people. She reiterated the government's resolve to uphold uniformity in policy.
