Market review April 21
A three-day trading holiday resulted from the closure of markets from Friday to Sunday.
Due to investors' continued caution regarding US tariffs and the state of the economy, stocks ended the shortened week on Thursday with mixed results.
The tech-focused Nasdaq fell by the same amount as the S&P 500, which increased by 0.1 percent. Both indexes finished well below their session highs. In the United States, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell sharply, dropping more than 500 points after UnitedHealth shares fell 22% after the company reduced its profit forecast due to rising healthcare costs.
With minimal trading across Asia, Indian markets are anticipated to start the day quietly. Stocks are being negatively impacted by ongoing trade tensions between the US and China.
