With a net worth of $33.5 billion, businesswoman Savitri Jindal maintained her position as the richest Indian woman on the Forbes Billionaires' List 2024. As reported by Forbes, the list, which was made public on Tuesday, had 200 Indians, a notable increase from the 169 who made the list the previous year.

"She is now the fourth richest in India, up from sixth a year ago, with a net worth of $33.5 billion," according to the survey.

The 74-year-old Jindal is the head of the Jindal Group, which has holdings in infrastructure, steel, electricity, and cement. Her late husband, Om Prakash Jindal, launched the New Delhi-based business in 1979.

The four sons of the marriage split up the Jindal Group's businesses when OP Jindal died in a helicopter crash in 2005. One of them is JSW Steel's CEO and business magnate, Sajjan Jindal.

Former Congress Savitri Jindal joins the BJP

Remarkably, Savitri Jindal left the Congress after over twenty years and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. A few days after her youngest son, Naveen Jindal, converted to the BJP, Jindal, a minister in the Haryana government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, joined the BJP on March 28.

Jindal Steel & Power is managed by Naveen, who is situated in Delhi. From 2004 until 2014, he served as the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha Congress MP. He will run for office this year from the seat on a BJP ticket.

The advent of Savitri Jindal in Politics

After her spouse passed away, Savitri entered politics. Her husband had been a minister in the Hooda administration at the time of his passing. She joined the Haryana government after winning the 2005 Hisar by-elections.

She went on to win the 2009 Hisar Assembly elections, and in 2013 she was appointed as a minister. She lost the Hisar seat in the subsequent Assembly elections in 2014, and she did not run in the 2019 elections.
