Step 1: Call 1930
Step 2: Contact your bank immediately
Step 3: Report the fraud through the cybercrime reporting system
Step 4: Preserve transaction IDs and screenshots
Step 5: Change compromised passwords/PINs
Step 6: Block cards/accounts where necessary
Step 7: Beware of recovery scams
Warning Signs of a Financial Scam
For example:
- Unsolicited calls/messages
- Extreme urgency
- Guaranteed returns
- Requests for OTP/PIN
- Requests to install apps
- Unknown payment links
- Requests for remote access
- Requests to move conversations to Telegram/WhatsApp
- “Government account” payment requests
- Requests for upfront fees wherein, if scannable financial fraud occurs, victims must immediately dial the national cyber fraud helpline 1930 or report it via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Reporting within the first hour allows banks to execute an emergency debit hold on mule accounts to freeze the stolen money.
