National Doctor's Day - 2024: India's Highest Paid Doctors and their Specializations

    Finance Outlook India Team

It is important to recognize the pivotal role played by the doctors and other healthcare professionals in ensuring people live healthy and heartedly. “Medicine cures diseases, but only doctors can cure patients.” – Carl Jung. Honoring today’s date, i.e., 1st of July as the National Doctors Day - 2024, let’s look at some of the highest-paid doctors who are usually specialists with extensive training and experience in a medical discipline, such as neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery. Specialists such as cardiothoracic surgeons, neurosurgeons, oncologists, and pulmonologists are said to be among the highest paid doctors. On average, doctors in India are said to make between 10 and 15 lakhs per year.

In India, doctors are among the highest-paid professionals, providing both financial stability and the potential to make a substantial contribution to society. Having said that, doctors' salaries vary based on their expertise, experience, and training. As the need for specialist healthcare services rises, many medical specialties have emerged as attractive and fulfilling employment options. These specialists are India's highest-paid doctors.

Now, let us look at the highest-paid doctors in India, together with their specialty and incomes:

Becoming a Doctor is currently the world's second highest-paying career option to choose. However, there is a common misperception that all doctors make a large wage. In fact, the compensation range varies based on the doctor's specialization. For example, a cardiologist is said to have an average salary of INR 19.5 LPA, an oncologist (INR 28.3 LPA), a pulmonologist (INR 22.9 LPA), a general surgeon (INR 15.7 LPA), an ENT specialist (INR 16.3 LPA), a neurologist (INR 12 LPA), a psychiatrist (INR 10 LPA), a general practitioner (INR 7.4), and a dentist (INR 3.6LPA).

Furthermore, the location of the hospital where the doctors work will influence their compensation range. So here’s the highest-paid physicians in India based on their location. For example, the average income in Delhi is INR 13.0 LPA, followed by INR 8.0 LPA in Mumbai, INR 5.0 LPA in Bangalore, and INR 4.8 LPA in Kolkata. After considering the financial aspects of being a doctor, it is crucial to remember that we cannot place a price on life, can we? As we mark National Doctors Day - 2024, we must recognize the value of physicians in our human well-being, as they frequently sacrifice their own personal life to assist people in need, regardless of time or location.

    Did you know?

Did you know that National Doctors Day is celebrated every year on July 1st to honor all doctors on the birth anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, one of India's most renowned physicians and the second Chief Minister of Bengal who dedicated his life to serving and treating countless people.
