64 Mutual Fund NFOs Filed in 2025: Records Twofold Y-o-Y Growth

Finance Outlook India Team | Monday, 24 March 2025

Mutual fund companies have increased their draft filings with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) since 2025, despite the continuous market volatility. With 64 new fund offers (NFOs) documents submitted so far this year, there has been a notable year-over-year (YoY) rise from 2024's 32 filings.

Index funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen the most growth, with 21 index funds and 15 ETFs filed this year, up from 9 and 6 in 2024.

Another indication that fund managers are concentrating on fixed-income products to offer stability in times of market turbulence is the rise in debt fund filings. The number of passive NFOs launched during these two months increased from five in January 2025 to eighteen in February 2025, demonstrating this.

Axis Nifty500 Low Volatility 50 Index Fund, Edelweiss BSE Internet Economy Index Fund, and SBI Nifty200 Quality 30 Index Fund are a few index fund registrations in the meantime. ETFs have also become more popular, as seen by draft filings for the Kotak Nifty 200 Quality 30 ETF, Angel One Nifty Total Market ETF, and ICICI Prudential Nifty EV & New Age Automotive ETF FOF.

There has also been an increase in equity mutual funds, with 13 new schemes filed, compared to 7 in 2024. Axis India Multi-Sector Growth Fund, Motilal Oswal Active Momentum Fund, and Samco Large & Mid Cap Fund are a few noteworthy filings.

Among the few filings in the hybrid fund category in 2025 are UTI Income Plus Arbitrage Active Fund of Fund and Unifi Dynamic Asset Allocation Fund.

About 66 NFOs have been introduced so far (41 in January and February compared to 56 in January and March of last year; 42 through February 28). Although there are now more funds, the amount collected from them has decreased. This follows a drop in mutual fund flows, particularly in the equity market.

The overall amount of money collected from NFOs between January and February in 2025 was Rs. 8,573 crore, compared to Rs. 18,537 crore in 2024, according to data from AMFI. The entire sum collected from NFOs in March 2024 was around Rs. 4,146.
