The long-delayed Peripheral Ring Road project, now known as the Bengaluru Business Corridor, was approved by the Karnataka Cabinet.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar told reporters following the cabinet meeting that the 117-kilometer corridor, which will connect Tumakuru Road to Mysuru Road via Yelahanka and Electronic City, will be finished in two years and should ease traffic in Bengaluru by almost 40%.
Key Highlights
- Karnataka government approves ₹27,000 crore Bengaluru Business Corridor project to ease traffic congestion.
- HUDCO loan secured for Bengaluru's Peripheral Ring Road; BDA to oversee project execution.
The project, which will be carried out by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), is planned as a 60-meter-wide toll road with space set aside for a future Metro corridor. It will run parallel to NICE Road.
To finance the project, the government intends to obtain a ₹27,000-crore loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). Shivakumar did point out that, depending on decisions about compensation and land acquisition, the ultimate cost might be lowered to about ₹10,000 crore.
The Deputy CM stated that in order to avoid delays, compensation for contested plots will be deposited in court, stressing that no land will be denotified. Four options for compensation will be presented to landowners, including 40% developed land in BDA layouts or double the market rate. However, smaller landowners will only receive monetary compensation.

Shivakumar explained the updated plan, stating that while the previous version had called for a road that was 100 meters wide, the new design restricts it to 60 meters, much like the Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway. As part of the compensation, he said, the remaining land will be given back to farmers for commercial use.
It was formerly known as the Peripheral Road and the Bengaluru Business Corridor. It extends from Electronic City to Mysuru Road and from Tumakuru Road to Electronic City. The planning for the project is already finished. The BDA plans to construct the road as a toll road with Metro space. Shivakumar stated that the Peripheral Road would be finished in two years.
