India Finance News: Markets, Earnings & Key Updates Today

Finance Outlook India Team | Tuesday, 18 August 2026

India finance news are facing a cautious session today as rising crude oil prices, geopolitical tensions and rupee weakness weigh on sentiment, while investors track corporate developments, fundraising activity, IPO launches, regulatory decisions, banking-sector reforms and fresh business updates across key sectors.

Paytm in focus amid proposed stake sale

Paytm is among the key stocks to watch after Resilient Asset Management proposed a block trade involving up to 4.98% of Paytm’s equity under its existing optionally convertible debenture arrangement with Antfin. The proposed transaction could bring additional supply into the stock and remains an important development for investors tracking the fintech company.

Netweb Technologies launches Rs 1,200-crore QIP

Netweb Technologies has opened a qualified institutional placement to raise up to Rs 1,200 crore, setting a floor price of Rs 4,885.90 per share. The company can offer a discount of up to 5% to the floor price, with the final issue price to be determined in consultation with its book-running lead managers.

Nelco invests $20 million in satellite connectivity

Tata Group company Nelco has partnered with US-based Lunar Holdco and invested $20 million, or around Rs 191 crore, to develop Direct-to-Device and IoT satellite connectivity for India and South Asian markets. The investment is being made through compulsorily convertible debentures carrying a 7% annual compounded return.

Airtel Payments Bank announces leadership change

Airtel Payments Bank has appointed Shabnam Sinha as its new Chairperson for a three-year term beginning October 1, 2026. She will succeed Sunil Bharti Mittal, who will step down as non-executive chairman and leave the board on September 30. Her appointment has received approval from the bank’s board and the RBI.

GMR Airports opens new Visakhapatnam airport

GMR Airports’ Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Visakhapatnam began commercial operations, connecting the region with destinations across India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The company described the development as a major milestone for North Andhra Pradesh’s connectivity and economic growth.

SPR Auto Technologies launches Rs 1,000-crore QIP

SPR Auto Technologies, formerly Shriram Pistons & Rings, has launched a QIP targeting up to Rs 1,000 crore, with the floor price fixed at ₹4,438.20 per share. The fund-raising exercise is expected to be closely watched by investors as the company seeks institutional capital.

    INDO-MIM reports 31.6% profit growth

INDO-MIM reported June-quarter profit of Rs 240.12 crore, up 31.6% year-on-year, while revenue from operations increased 9.39% to ₹1,218.74 crore. The stronger profitability puts the company among the stocks drawing attention in Tuesday’s trade.

Markets Open Lower as Oil Crosses $91

The Sensex and Nifty opened lower today after Brent crude climbed above $91 a barrel following the expiry of the US-Iran ceasefire. The geopolitical escalation has increased concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies and imported inflation in India.

    Rupee Faces Fresh Pressure

The Indian rupee weakened to around Rs 95.68–Rs 95.72 per dollar in early expectations, with rising crude prices and higher US Treasury yields adding pressure. Reuters reported that the RBI was likely intervening in the foreign-exchange market for an eighth consecutive session to cushion the currency.

RBI Continues to `Support the Rupee

The central bank’s intervention comes as oil prices move above $90 and the rupee approaches multi-week lows. State-run banks were reportedly selling dollars, likely on behalf of the RBI, as policymakers attempt to limit excessive volatility rather than defend a specific exchange-rate level.

    IPO Market Remains Active

The Indian primary market continues to see strong activity, with Shankesh Jewellers and Sunshine Pictures opening their IPOs today. Shankesh Jewellers’ three-day issue runs from August 18 to August 20, while Sunshine Pictures is also accepting subscriptions during the same period with a Rs 342–Rs 360 price band.

    Government Plans Banking-sector Review

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that the government will constitute a high-powered committee to examine banking-sector reforms and help shape India’s banking framework for the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The announcement comes as the government points to improvements in banks’ asset quality and declining NPAs.

    REIT Distributions Surge

Income distributed to investors by India’s listed REITs rose to Rs 3,136 crore in Q1 FY27, more than doubling from the year-earlier period, according to data from the Indian REITs Association. The number of listed REITs has also increased to six, highlighting the expanding role of listed real-estate investment vehicles.

    Colgate Warns of Inflation Pressure

Colgate-Palmolive India has indicated that it may take additional price increases in coming quarters to protect margins from commodity inflation. CEO and Managing Director Prabha Narasimhan said the company has protected vulnerable consumers through higher grammage in smaller packs and described its Rs 10 and Rs 20 packs as offering “fantastic value.” She also said premiumisation remains a significant growth opportunity in toothpaste and toothbrushes.

    Market Outlook

Indian equities are likely to remain volatile and stock-specific today, with crude oil, geopolitical developments and currency movements dominating the broader market direction. The Nifty’s fifth consecutive fall on Monday, followed by another weak opening today, reflects the pressure created by higher oil prices and reduced risk appetite.

At the company level, investors will track Paytm’s proposed stake sale, Netweb and SPR Auto’s QIPs, Nelco’s satellite investment, and Airtel Payments Bank’s leadership transition. Meanwhile, the IPO launches of Shankesh Jewellers and Sunshine Pictures add fresh activity to the primary market.
