India Finance News Today: Markets, Earnings & Key Policy Updates

Finance Outlook India Team | Thursday, 13 August 2026

Indian finance news are set for a subdued start on Thursday, August 13, as investors track strong Q1 earnings, major financial-sector developments, the latest MSCI index rejig, crude oil and rupee movements, rising retail inflation, and changing US Fed rate expectations amid mixed global cues.

Jio Financial and Bank of America announce major deal

Jio Financial Services is among the biggest corporate updates today after Bank of America agreed to acquire up to 49.9% of Jio Financial’s non-bank lending arm in a transaction valued at about Rs 18,268 crore ($1.92 billion). The deal is expected to strengthen Jio’s consumer-credit ambitions while giving Bank of America a significant foothold in India’s rapidly expanding digital financial-services market.

Lenskart posts sharp Q1 profit growth

Lenskart Solutions reported a significant improvement in Q1 FY27, with consolidated revenue rising 43.3% to Rs 2,714 crore, EBITDA increasing 75.5% to Rs 588 crore and net profit reaching Rs 222 crore, compared with Rs 60 crore a year earlier. The company’s EBITDA margin also improved to 21.7% from 17.7%. Co-founder and CEO of Lenskart, Peyush Bansal, in a letter to shareholders addressing the quarterly performance, emphasized that the objective of the company goes beyond traditional market competition, stating: "We see our role as creating the market, not competing in it."

    Apollo Hospitals Profit Jumps 34%

Apollo Hospitals reported a 34% year-on-year increase in Q1 profit to Rs 581 crore, supported by strong demand for complex treatments and growth in healthcare services. Revenue from operations rose 20.6% to Rs 7,043 crore, while hospital occupancy improved to 70% from 65% a year earlier. Apollo plans to add more than 5,800 beds over the next five years.

Strong Q1 Results Keep Several Stocks in Focus

The earnings season continues to drive stock-specific action, with companies including Astral, VA Tech Wabag, FIEM Industries, Sun TV Network, Jagran Prakashan, Motisons Jewellers, Vadilal Industries and India Glycols reporting their latest quarterly numbers. Sun TV reported a 17% rise in net profit to Rs 619 crore and declared an interim dividend of Rs 5 per share, while Vadilal Industries posted a 95.5% increase in profit.

MSCI India rejig to bring passive flows

MSCI’s August review will add Laurus Labs, Lenskart, Adani Energy Solutions and Groww to its Global Standard Index from September 1, while Balkrishna Industries, SBI Cards and Astral will be removed. India’s weighting in the index is expected to rise from 11.8% to 11.9%.

Nuvama estimates potential passive inflows of about $598 million for Laurus Labs, $352 million for Lenskart, $310 million for Adani Energy Solutions and $256 million for Groww.

    Rupee likely to remain range-bound

The Indian rupee is expected to open broadly flat to marginally weaker around Rs 95.34–Rs 95.38 per dollar, as strong dollar demand from hedgers offsets support from the RBI’s intervention in the foreign-exchange market. The currency closed at Rs 95.33 on Wednesday after trading in an unusually narrow range.

Crude oil remains a major risk factor

Brent crude was around $88 a barrel on Thursday after slipping about 1%, although supply concerns linked to the US-Iran conflict continue to provide a floor to prices. The International Energy Agency has forecast a global oil-market shortfall of 1.8 million barrels per day this quarter, making crude a key variable for India’s inflation, trade deficit and currency outlook.

India’s July retail inflation rises to 4.45%

India’s retail inflation accelerated to 4.45% in July, according to data released Wednesday. However, the reading is still not expected to prompt an immediate RBI rate hike, particularly as the central bank recently maintained a cautious policy stance and domestic growth remains a priority.

    US inflation eases Fed-rate concerns

US consumer prices increased only 0.1% in July, in line with expectations, reducing market expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike next month. Money markets now put the probability of a September hike at about 40%, down from 54% a week earlier, providing some relief to emerging-market assets such as Indian equities and currencies.

    Market outlook

Indian stock market are likely to remain cautious today, with the Jio Financial-Bank of America transaction, Tata Motors and Lenskart earnings, and Apollo Hospitals’ strong results providing company-level catalysts. At the broader market level, investors will track the MSCI rejig, rupee movement, crude oil prices and changing expectations around US monetary policy.
