    India finance today brings a mix of strong corporate earnings, a major global brokerage's portfolio reshuffle, and key government spending announcements shaping the broader economy.     SBI Reports 10.23% Rise in Q1 Net Profit to Rs 21,121 Crore

    State Bank of India reported a 10.23% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to Rs 21,121 crore for the first quarter of FY27, up from Rs 19,160 crore a year earlier, supported by strong growth in net interest income and advances. Net interest income rose 14.88% year-on-year to Rs 46,992 crore, while operating profit grew 9.77% to Rs 33,529 crore. The bank's gross advances rose 18.63% year-on-year to Rs 50.47 lakh crore, and asset quality improved, with the gross NPA ratio declining to 1.47% from 1.83% a year earlier. SBI shares gained 3.5% on the results, with Chairman C.S  Setty man that its overall business crossed Rs 110 lakh crore during the quarter.

    Jefferies' Christopher Wood Reshuffles India Portfolio

    Jefferies' Christopher Wood has reshuffled his India long-only model portfolio, dropping HDFC Bank and PB Fintech's PolicyBazaar in favour of Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and eyewear retailer Lenskart Solutions. The move, detailed in his GREED & fear report, signals a strategic shift toward exchange infrastructure and consumer retail plays within India's equity markets.

    Sensex, Nifty End the Week Lower Amid Crude Oil Pressure

    Indian stock market declined on Friday, dragged down by financial stocks and rising crude oil prices amid renewed uncertainty over the Middle East. The BSE Sensex fell 455.59 points, or 0.58%, to settle at 78,499.17, while the Nifty 50 dipped 65.35 points, or 0.27%, to end at 24,570.65. Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Trent were the top losers on the Nifty50, while Hindalco, Grasim, TCS, M&M and SBI were among the top gainers. Sudeep Shah, Head of Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, noted that the 24,500-24,480 zone is expected to provide immediate support for the index in the near term.

    Rupee Depreciates to Close at 95.22 Against the Dollar

    The Indian rupee weakened 14 paise to close at 95.22 against the US dollar on Thursday, reflecting cautious sentiment ahead of key US economic data releases and continued volatility in global crude oil prices.

    Government Approves Rs 1.25 Lakh Crore for Semiconductor Mission 2.0

    The government is set to approve an allocation of Rs 1.25 lakh crore for India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, as part of continued efforts to strengthen the country's chip manufacturing ecosystem and reduce reliance on imported semiconductors.

    ECLGS 5.0 Provides Over Rs 1.55 Trillion in Guarantee Support

    The Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5.0 has provided guarantee support exceeding Rs 1.55 trillion to businesses impacted by disruptions arising from the West Asia geopolitical situation, according to the Finance Ministry. The scheme has issued over 4.11 lakh guarantees, with MSMEs accounting for 98% of the total number of guarantees and 82% of the guaranteed amount. The Finance Ministry said that since launch, the scheme's rapid absorption across the lending ecosystem reflects strong demand from affected businesses.

    E-Way Bill Generation Hits Four-Month High in June

    Generation of e-way bills under the GST regime increased 14.5% year-on-year to 136.77 million in June 2026, reaching a four-month high and reflecting sustained momentum in domestic goods movement, supply chain activity and tax compliance. Experts noted that the sustained level of e-way bill generation points to continued resilience in domestic trade and increasing formalisation of the economy.

    34 BSE Stocks Double in Six Months

    Thirty-four BSE-listed stocks doubled in value over the past six months, with 12 of them delivering returns ranging from 169% to 923%. Retail investors were seen raising stakes in several of these multibagger stocks during the June 2026 quarter, even as some investors booked profits in select names.

    8th Pay Commission Meetings Continue Ahead of May 2027 Deadline

    Meetings related to the 8th Pay Commission are set to continue until August 10, and are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the commission's final report, which is likely to be submitted to the Centre by May 2027.

    RBI's Repo Rate Pause Supports Residential Real Estate Sentiment

    India's residential property sector continues to show resilience, driven by consistent demand and infrastructure development. The RBI's decision to hold the repo rate steady this week is expected to further bolster this positive trend, giving homebuyers and developers greater confidence to make informed, future-focused decisions, with favourable financing conditions helping developers organise project timelines and pricing more efficiently.

    With SBI's strong Q1 show, continued government push on semiconductors and credit guarantees, and shifting global investor positioning, Indian finance news today reflects a market balancing near-term caution with underlying economic resilience.
