Finance Outlook India Team | Thursday, 06 August 2026

Indian finance news today are set for a mildly positive start on Thursday, with oil prices holding below $80 a barrel amid hopes of a resolution to the West Asia conflict, even as a packed Q1 earnings calendar and a major leadership change at Air India keep investor attention split across sectors. From aviation and insurance to fintech and auto, several important developments are shaping today's financial updates.

PB Fintech Reports 92% Jump in Q1 Profit

PB Fintech, the parent company of Policybazaar, reported a 92% year-on-year rise in profit after tax to Rs 163 crore for Q1 FY27, while total insurance premium grew 41% year-on-year to Rs 8,372 crore, reflecting continued strong momentum in the company's core insurance distribution business.

Air India Names New CEO Amid Record Losses

Air India's Board of Directors on Wednesday appointed Tewolde Gebremariam, former CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, as the airline's new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, succeeding Campbell Wilson. The leadership change comes at a financially critical juncture: Air India posted its biggest annual loss since the Tata Group takeover in FY26, at roughly Rs 26,765 crore (around $2.96 billion), driven by high fuel costs, airspace restrictions and integration costs from the Vistara merger. The carrier has sought fresh capital from Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, which holds a 25.1% stake in the group, to support its ongoing turnaround.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India said, "Gebremariam's record of building one of the world's most efficient and profitable airline groups made him uniquely suited to lead Air India's next phase of execution and expansion." Gebremariam said he was honoured to lead Air India at a historic moment and looked forward to building a world-class global airline that reflects India's economic potential.
