Indian Finance News Today: Latest Markets and Corporate Updates

Finance Outlook India Team | Wednesday, 23 September 2026

Indian finance news today is driven by cautious market recovery as equities opened higher despite continued foreign fund outflows and concerns over the Middle East conflict. The Sensex gained around 0.22% while the Nifty 50 rose about 0.24% in early trade, supported by positive Asian market cues and softer crude oil prices. Brent crude remained around $99 a barrel, while the rupee was expected to open largely flat near Rs 95.60 against the US dollar. Investors are also tracking heavy corporate activity, with Adani Group companies, Persistent Systems, Hero Motors, RHI Magnesita and Pine Labs among the stocks in focus. Meanwhile, Hero Motors, SS Retail and Jindal Supreme are set to make their market debuts, while fresh IPO activity continues with Swastika Infra and Adroit Industries opening for subscription.

Adani Group Companies Settle SEBI Proceedings

Five Adani Group companies have settled adjudication proceedings with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), with a combined payment of Rs 1.50 crore. The companies involved are Adani Enterprises, Adani Green Energy, Adani Total Gas, AWL Agri Business and Adani Energy Solutions.

The proceedings related to alleged lapses concerning disclosure of certain related-party transactions and issues involving audit or limited-review reports. According to the settlement order, Adani Enterprises paid Rs 76.05 lakh, Adani Green Energy paid Rs 45.50 lakh, while Adani Total Gas, AWL Agri Business and Adani Energy Solutions paid Rs 9.75 lakh each.

The proceedings followed SEBI examination of issues and corporate-governance concerns raised in connection with the Hindenburg report. The settlement resolves the adjudication proceedings without the companies admitting or denying the allegations.

Persistent Systems Secures 83.25% Stake in Nagarro

Persistent Systems has secured an aggregate 83.25% stake in Germany-based digital engineering company Nagarro after its wholly owned subsidiary acquired an additional 61.15% through a voluntary public takeover offer.

Persistent had already held 22.10% of Nagarro, and the latest acquisition takes its ownership well above the 50% threshold required for control. An additional acceptance period for shareholders runs from September 23 to October 6, 2026. Persistent has also indicated plans to delist Nagarro from the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Persistent Founder, Chairman and Managing Director Dr Anand Deshpande had earlier described the transaction as an important step towards combining the two companies, highlighting similarities in engineering capabilities, client focus and long-term business approach. CEO and Executive Director Sandeep Kalra said the companies have complementary strengths across digital engineering, AI, cloud, industry expertise and global talent.

Hero Motors Shares Set to Make Market Debut

Hero Motors is set to make its stock-market debut on Wednesday following its Rs 1,000-crore IPO. The auto-components and advanced-mobility company had fixed its IPO price band at Rs 79-84 per share, with proceeds intended partly for debt reduction and expansion of manufacturing facilities.

The IPO was fully subscribed on its opening day, reflecting demand across investor categories. The issue comprised a fresh issue of Rs 600 crore and an offer for sale component. Hero Motors shares are scheduled to begin trading on the BSE and NSE today, adding another newly listed company to an already active primary-market calendar.

Hero Motors Managing Director and CEO Amit Gupta confirmed that the board is actively targeting technological expansion and are discussing at a board level where should they move. While Chairman Pankaj Munjal and CEO Amit Gupta declined to detail specific targets, they highlighted that proposals for tech acquisitions are actively rolling in post-IPO.

RHI Magnesita Sees Rs 826 Crore Block Deal

RHI Magnesita India is in focus after Dalmia Bharat Refractories sold 2.29 crore shares, representing an 11.11% stake, through a block deal worth approximately Rs 826 crore.

The shares were sold at Rs 360 apiece. Buyers included institutional investors such as SBI Mutual Fund, Bandhan Mutual Fund and other financial investors. The transaction represents a substantial reduction in Dalmia Bharat Refractories holding in RHI Magnesita India.

RHI Magnesita is a major supplier of refractory products used across industries including steel, cement, copper, aluminium and glass.

Pine Labs Block Deal Draws Investor Attention

Pine Labs remains in focus after Mastercard Asia/Pacific sold 4.97 crore shares, equivalent to a 4.31% stake, in the fintech company. The transaction was executed at an average price of Rs 187.75 per share and was valued at approximately Rs 934 crore.

Several institutional investors participated in the transaction. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance acquired 93.1 lakh shares, while Societe Generale bought 87.7 lakh shares and Citigroup Global Markets purchased 66.7 lakh shares. Edelweiss Mutual Fund also acquired around 52.94 lakh shares.

Indian Markets Open Higher Despite Foreign Outflows

Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Wednesday, with the Sensex up around 0.22% and the Nifty 50 gaining approximately 0.24% at 9:16 a.m. The positive opening followed gains across several Asian markets and strength in global technology stocks.

However, the broader market remains sensitive to foreign fund selling. The Nifty had closed at 23,329 on Tuesday, while the Sensex ended lower as investors booked profits and continued to assess geopolitical and macroeconomic risks.

FII Selling Remains a Major Market Concern

Foreign investors continued to reduce exposure to Indian equities. Provisional data showed foreign investors sold Rs 3,809.99 crore of Indian shares on Tuesday, marking their eighth selling session in the last nine trading days.

Domestic institutional investors provided some support, purchasing Rs 4,120.07 crore of equities on Tuesday. Foreign investors have sold approximately $1.81 billion worth of Indian shares during September so far, taking year-to-date outflows to around $25.87 billion, according reports.

    Crude Oil Falls Below $100

Brent crude has fallen below the $100-a-barrel level as markets assess increased Gulf supply and hopes of diplomatic progress between the US and Iran. Brent was around $99 a barrel on Wednesday, close to a two-week low.

Lower crude prices could provide some relief to oil-importing economies such as India by reducing pressure on the import bill and the current account. However, geopolitical developments remain a key source of volatility for energy markets.

Rupee Expected to Open Around Rs 95.60

The Indian rupee is expected to open largely flat at around Rs 95.60-Rs 95.65 against the US dollar, compared with Tuesday’s close of Rs 95.59.

Currency traders continue to track crude oil prices, foreign portfolio flows and developments surrounding the US-Iran conflict. Reuters reported that sustained foreign outflows and the elevated energy import bill have kept pressure on the rupee, although central-bank intervention and stronger foreign-exchange reserves have helped contain some of the currency volatility.

    IPO Activity Remains Strong

The Indian primary market remains active with multiple listings and new issues on Wednesday. Hero Motors, SS Retail and Jindal Supreme are scheduled to make their stock-market debuts, adding to the strong flow of new listings.

At the same time, Swastika Infra IPO opened for subscription on September 23 with a price band of Rs 175-185 per share and an issue size of Rs 160.88 crore. Adroit Industries IPO also opened today for a three-day subscription period. The continued flow of IPOs and listings is keeping primary-market activity in focus even as secondary-market investors remain cautious amid foreign selling and geopolitical uncertainty.

    Market Outlook

Indian stock market today is stating on a firmer note, but the positive opening is being balanced by continued foreign selling, geopolitical uncertainty and elevated energy-market risks. The easing of Brent crude below $100 provides some relief, while gains in Asian equities and global technology stocks are supporting sentiment.

Stock-specific activity is likely to remain important, with Adani Group companies, Persistent Systems, Hero Motors, RHI Magnesita and Pine Labs in focus. Investors will also monitor the new IPOs and market debuts, along with FII-DII activity and the rupee, as these factors shape the near-term direction of Indian equities.
