Indian stock markets will remain closed today, Thursday, May 28, 2026, on account of Bakri Id (Eid al-Adha), one of the most significant Islamic festivals observed across the world. Both the NSE and BSE have suspended trading activity across equity, derivatives and currency segments for the day.
Key Highlights
- NSE and BSE remain closed today on account of Bakri Id holiday across India.
- MCX commodity trading will resume only during the evening session after 5 PM.
Bakri Id, also known as Eid al-Adha, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice, devotion and compassion, inspired by Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The holiday has resulted in a shortened trading week for Indian investors and traders.
Trading across the Indian stock market will resume on Friday, May 29, during regular market hours. The NSE and BSE normally operate from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST, while the pre-open session takes place between 9:00 AM and 9:15 AM.
