Latest Finance Updates: Quarter Earnings and Market News Today

Finance Outlook India Team | Friday, 23 October 2026

India’s latest finance updates today is driven by September-quarter earnings, rising crude oil prices and developments in the Indian rupee. The Sensex and Nifty 50 opened higher after three consecutive sessions of losses, supported by gains in information technology stocks. However, concerns over elevated oil prices and geopolitical tensions continued to weigh on investor sentiment. Brent crude rose to around US$113.50 per barrel amid supply concerns following attacks on Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Swiggy, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Colgate-Palmolive India and Cyient drew attention following their quarterly results, while Infosys and several other major companies were scheduled to announce their Q2 FY27 earnings later in the day.

Swiggy’s Quarterly Loss Narrows to Rs 922 Crore

Swiggy reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 922 crore for the September quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 1,092 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations increased 36.1% year-on-year to Rs 7,571 crore, exceeding analysts’ expectations. However, the quarterly loss was higher than the average analyst estimate, highlighting continuing profitability challenges in its quick-commerce business.

The company’s food delivery business recorded adjusted core profit of Rs 341 crore, an increase of 42.1%, supported by advertising revenue and delivery efficiencies. Its quick-commerce business, Instamart, continued to face pressure from customer acquisition spending, pricing investments and warehouse expansion.

Swiggy plans to strengthen its presence in existing markets rather than rapidly enter new cities. Chief Financial Officer of Swiggy, Rahul Bothra said th`st they don’t see the need to necessarily add a lot many more stores, explaining that existing warehouses have capacity to accommodate higher order volumes.

The company expects Instamart’s adjusted core margin to improve by approximately 100 basis points sequentially in the December quarter. Its strategy reflects an increasing focus on warehouse utilisation and profitability amid competition from rivals such as Blinkit.

HPCL Reports Rs 3,625 Crore Profit in Q2

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited reported consolidated net profit of approximately Rs 3,625 crore for Q2 FY27, down around 6.1% from Rs 3,859 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue increased substantially, supported by stronger year-on-year business performance. The result also represented a recovery from the significant loss HPCL recorded in the preceding quarter.

The oil marketing company remains sensitive to crude oil prices, refining margins and fuel-market conditions. Higher international crude prices can increase working-capital requirements and create uncertainty around profitability, depending on refining performance and domestic fuel pricing.

Investors will monitor HPCL’s future margins and earnings for indications of how effectively the company can manage volatile energy prices. The company’s results also come at a time when rising global oil prices are raising concerns about India’s import bill and inflation outlook.

Colgate-Palmolive India Reports 4.3% Profit Growth

Colgate-Palmolive India reported a 4.3% year-on-year increase in net profit to Rs 341.6 crore for Q2 FY27. Revenue grew 12.3% to Rs 1,705.8 crore, supported by double-digit domestic growth and demand for its premium toothpaste portfolio. Profit before interest, depreciation and tax increased 3.1% to Rs 495.2 crore.

Manish Anandani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Colgate-Palmolive, said that they are delighted to report double-digit topline growth for the second consecutive quarter. He attributed the performance to growth across the company’s brands and distribution channels, adding that the toothpaste portfolio recorded high-single-digit volume expansion.

The company also reported a 40-basis-point year-on-year improvement in gross margin to 69.6%. Anandani said Colgate would continue managing commodity-cost fluctuations through savings and calibrated pricing while investing in brand building and premiumisation.

Cyient’s Q2 Profit Declines Despite Revenue Growth

Engineering and technology services company Cyient reported a decline in consolidated net profit for the September quarter despite growth in revenue. Its profit after tax fell approximately 7.3% year-on-year to Rs 132.5 crore, while total income rose to around Rs 2,243.6 crore. The performance indicates that stronger revenue did not translate into equivalent profit growth.

Cyient also announced an interim dividend, keeping its capital-return policy in focus. Investors will assess its margin performance, operating expenses and demand across engineering and technology services in the coming quarters.

Cyient’s results reflect a broader earnings-season theme: revenue growth alone may not be sufficient to support investor confidence if costs rise or profitability weakens. Management commentary and subsequent financial performance will be important in determining whether the company can improve margins.

Infosys and Major Companies Set to Announce Q2 Results

Infosys is among the major companies scheduled to announce its September-quarter results on Friday. The company’s official investor-relations calendar lists October 23 as the announcement date, with management comments scheduled for 4:30 p.m. IST and the earnings conference call at 6 p.m. IST. Its results were therefore still pending at the time of this morning’s market update.

Other companies expected to announce results during the day include Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, IndusInd Bank, Shriram Finance, SBI Cards and Payment Services, Adani Power, Bharat Petroleum and Coforge. Investors will assess revenue growth, margins, order pipelines and management guidance for signals about corporate demand and profitability.

The announcements are particularly important as investors weigh the outlook for technology spending, manufacturing activity, credit growth and consumer demand. Infosys’ results and forward guidance will be closely watched following volatility in global technology shares and renewed concerns about spending on artificial intelligence.

Sensex and Nifty Open Higher After Three Sessions of Losses

Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday, offering some relief after three consecutive sessions of declines. The Nifty 50 rose 0.16% to 22,726, while the Sensex gained 0.53% to 73,634.08. Information technology stocks led the early recovery, with the IT index gaining around 3%.

However, the broader market remained weaker. Small-cap and mid-cap indices declined, while 11 of the 16 major sectors recorded losses. The uneven performance suggests that the early gains were concentrated in selected stocks rather than reflecting a broad-based recovery.

Investors are monitoring corporate earnings, crude oil prices and international market trends for direction. The previous session had ended lower, with the Sensex falling 460.30 points to 73,249.39 and the Nifty declining 123.70 points to 22,687.65.

Rupee Faces Pressure as Oil Prices Rise

The Indian rupee’s recent recovery is facing renewed pressure from rising crude oil prices and a global shift towards safer assets. After reaching a six-week high near Rs 94.30 against the US dollar, the currency weakened, with traders expecting it to open around Rs 94.84–Rs 94.88 per dollar on Friday.

Higher oil prices are a concern because India imports a substantial share of its crude requirements. A weaker rupee makes dollar-denominated imports more expensive and can add to inflationary pressures.

Currency movements will remain sensitive to international energy prices, foreign investment flows and changes in global risk appetite. Investors will also watch whether the RBI intervenes to reduce excessive volatility in the foreign-exchange market.

Brent Crude Climbs Above US$113 per Barrel

Brent crude futures rose to approximately US$113.50 per barrel on Friday amid concerns about potential supply disruptions following Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Rising energy prices have added to uncertainty across global financial markets and contributed to concerns about inflation in oil-importing economies.

For India, sustained increases in crude prices could raise the import bill, put pressure on the rupee and increase operating costs for energy-intensive businesses. Companies in aviation, transportation, paints and chemicals may face additional cost pressures if elevated prices persist.

Oil prices will therefore remain a key variable for investors assessing India’s inflation outlook, corporate earnings and monetary policy. Any escalation in geopolitical tensions could increase volatility in energy markets.

RBI Inflation Concerns and Foreign Investment Flows Remain in Focus

Inflation risks and foreign investment activity continue to shape India’s financial outlook. Recent Reserve Bank of India monetary policy minutes indicated that policymakers remain concerned about price pressures, while acknowledging the need to balance inflation control against economic growth. Higher crude oil prices have added to these concerns.

Foreign portfolio investment flows are another important factor for domestic equities and the rupee. Foreign investors’ buying and selling decisions can influence market liquidity, currency demand and valuations, particularly during periods of global uncertainty.

Investors will continue to monitor inflation data, international bond yields, oil prices and company earnings for clues about the direction of monetary policy and financial markets. The RBI’s future decisions will be important for borrowers, businesses and investors assessing the cost of capital and India’s growth outlook.

    Market Outlook

India’s financial markets are balancing company-specific earnings developments with wider economic risks. Swiggy’s narrowing consolidated loss, Colgate-Palmolive India’s revenue growth and HPCL’s quarterly performance are among the key corporate updates, while Cyient’s profit decline highlights the importance of margins alongside revenue expansion. Infosys and other major companies are also in focus as the Q2 FY27 earnings season continues.

At the broader level, rising crude oil prices and rupee volatility remain key challenges. Although Indian benchmarks opened higher on Friday, weak broader-market participation suggests that investors remain cautious. Corporate earnings, management guidance and developments in energy markets are likely to influence the next phase of trading.
