LG Electronics has announced a Rs 5,000 crore investment to establish a cutting-edge facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Nara Lokesh, Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, laid the foundation stone alongside LG Electronics India Managing Director Hong Ju Jeon and other dignitaries.
The Andhra Pradesh government has provided LGEIL with 247 acres of land in Sri City for the new plant, which is expected to create approximately 1,900 direct and indirect jobs. This facility will have a site area of one million square metres and a total floor area of 220,000 square metres. LGEIL's Rs 5,001 crore investment over four years is expected to attract ancillary investments to the region, establishing a white goods manufacturing ecosystem in the state, the company announced on Thursday.
Lokesh stated that every job created and innovation launched is helping to transform Andhra Pradesh into a global electronics powerhouse. "This is not just the beginning of a manufacturing unit—it's the laying of a foundation for the future of Andhra Pradesh," according to Lokesh. "This project goes beyond industrial development; it represents a watershed moment in India's industrial and technological advancement. Where innovation and investment intersect, the future is built."
The journey from "Made in Andhra" to "Made for the World" continues with strength and purpose, according to the statement. This LG unit is one of the first major foreign direct investments (FDI) since Andhra Pradesh's new government was formed.
When fully operational, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 800,000 refrigerators, 850,000 washing machines, 1.5 million air conditioners, and 2 million air conditioner compressors. Air conditioners will be produced first in 2026, followed by washing machines, refrigerators, and compressor lines in stages until 2029.
The LG facility will manufacture advanced, smart, and energy-efficient home appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and washers. "This is more than just manufacturing; it's about shaping the future of how we live. It is about creating jobs, empowering youth, and changing lives. "We're not just building factories; we're building our state's future," Lokesh said.
The main LG unit is expected to create 1,500 direct jobs. Furthermore, LG's key vendor partners will invest an additional Rs 839 crore, creating over 690 new jobs. The project will significantly benefit the local economy and the region's entire electronics ecosystem.
LG intends to strengthen its supply chain and reduce reliance on imports by manufacturing key components in-state, such as compressors and heat exchangers. Ecoria, Kuroda Electric, Heng Sung India, Kyungsung Precision, and Taesung Electronics will be key partners in this integrated growth strategy. This collaboration demonstrates Andhra Pradesh's growth as a competitive global hub for electronics manufacturing.
"When global industrial giants align with Andhra's vision, transformative change becomes inevitable," Lokesh told reporters. LG and its partners are bringing cutting-edge technologies to India, including AI-driven manufacturing, smart production processes, and energy-efficient systems.
Sri City has become a lighthouse for industrial progress, and projects like this are shaping Andhra Pradesh's economic future, according to the statement. From land acquisition to construction and full-scale production, the state government will provide comprehensive assistance at all stages.
"We are committed to providing an enabling environment for industrial growth and advanced innovation," says Lokesh. "Andhra Pradesh is open for business, eager for innovation, and ready for transformation."
