    Passport Fees Revised After 14 Years, New Charges Effective July 1

    Under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has updated the passport fees and travel documents, which will take effect from July 1, 2026. The revision pertains to new passport applications, passport renewals, Tatkal services, replacement of lost or damaged passports, Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), and any other passport related services. The change will be the biggest change in passport fee in more than 10 years.

    The revised rates will charge applicants Rs 2,500 for a fresh passport or reissued passport of 36 pages, while the Tatkal will cost Rs 5,000 under the new rates. Among the changes, the 60-page passport will now cost the normal category a fee of Rs 3,500 and Tatkal category Rs 6,000.

    If the applicant is below 18 years, a new/reissue 36 page passport will cost Rs 1,750 in the normal scheme and Rs 4,250 in Tatkal. The validity of passports will not change (10 years for adults and 5 years or until the youth reaches 18 years, whichever is earlier). The current 10% fee concession will be available for eligible children aged up to 8 years and for the elderly people aged above 60 years.

    The government has also raised the fees for replacement of lost or damaged passports. Replacement 36-page passport for adults will cost Rs 5,000 (normal category) and Rs 7,500 (Tatkal) and for 60 page passport, the price is Rs 6,000 and Rs 8,500, respectively. For children, the replacement of a lost or damaged 36-page passport will cost Rs 4,250 in the normal scheme and Rs 6,750 in Tatkal.

    The cost of a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) or Surrender Certificate, Global Entry Programme verification or other miscellaneous certificates related to the passport has been pegged at Rs 750 in the country and $40 abroad. The cost of Emergency Certificate issued abroad will be $15 and Certificate of Identity is going to be Rs 1,000 in India and $50 in foreign countries.

    The amended rates will be in effect from 1st July, 2026 and will supersede the rates laid down in the Passports Rules, 1980.
