What Should PNB Customers Do If Money Goes Missing From Their Accounts?
The incident has brought to light the precautions consumers should take when they see unauthorized charges or discrepancies on their bank statements.
Adhil Shetty, CEO at BankBazaar, said that the customers should take immediate action once they have detected a suspicious transaction. It is important that all communication with the bank be reported promptly and records kept of that communication so that the customer can follow up his or her complaints.
Customers can take the following steps if they are involved in possible banking fraud: Inform the Bank Right Away, Make a Formal Complaint, Keep the Reference Number, Report Suspected Digital Fraud at 1930, and Contact RBI Ombudsman if Complaint is Unresolved.
If the bank fails to respond within 30 days or the customer is not satisfied with its response, the complaint can be referred to the appropriate grievance redress mechanism provided by RBI. Complaints can be made in the Reserve Bank of India Complaint Management System (CMS).
PNB Fraud Investigation and Customer Claims Remain Under Review
PNB has stated that it is investigating the complaints, handing over evidence to authorities, and beefing up its internal monitoring mechanisms. The bank's pledge to pay out genuine claims is important for those impacted by the alleged financial irregularities, but the extent of these is still being investigated.
The estimated loss of Rs 35 crore by the local customers is also difference to the complainants loss of Rs 11.24 crore, which also points towards the need of the verification. The final findings of the investigation, and the bank's review of individual claims, will dictate the amount of customer losses and what it needs to do.
