Tata Sons executive chairman N Chandrasekaran received total remuneration of Rs 158.66 crore in the year ended March 31, 2026, up from Rs 155.81 crore a year earlier, according to the holding company's annual report. The compensation is the highest Chandrasekaran has received since Tata Sons began disclosing executive remuneration in fiscal 2022. Over the past five years, he has earned a cumulative Rs 671.4 crore.

The total emolument for N Chandrasekaran for FY26 was Rs 17.97 crore in salary and other benefits, which is 18% higher than the previous fiscal's Rs 15.12 crore, and Rs 140.69 crore in profit linked commission, which remains unchanged from the previous fiscal. Chandrasekaran's salary has increased in the last five years, but most of the remunerations have been in the form of commissions, which has gone up in tandem with the growth of Tata Sons' profitability.
The commission of the company increased from Rs 94 crore for FY22 to Rs 100 crore for FY23 and Rs 121.5 crore for FY24, and further jumped to Rs 140.69 crore for FY25 and stayed at the same level in FY26. On the other hand, salary and various benefits have also been increasing steadily from Rs 14.61 crore in FY22 to Rs 13 crore in FY23, Rs 13.82 crore in FY24, Rs 15.12 crore in FY25 and now Rs 17.97 crore in FY26 making N Chandrasekaran one of the highest-paid corporate executives in India.
N Chandrasekaran is scheduled to meet shareholders at the annual general meeting of Tata Sons on August 18 when he is due to retire by rotation and will seek approval to remain as director. He currently serves as Chairman for five years, until February 2027.
Other Executive Pay at Tata Sons
It was interesting to see that Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director Saurabh Agrawal was the second highest paid executive at Tata Sons with a total of Rs 33.69 crore, of which Rs 26 crore was in commission in the FY26. The six other board members received no remuneration other than sitting fees. As recommended by him since taking over as director of the Tata Sons board, the director Venu Srinivasan has continued to waive the commission from the company, the annual report added.

Tata Group's Strong Financial Performance
Tata Group's revenue increased 7.8% to Rs 16,24,030 crore and net profits rose 51.9% to Rs 1,70,525 crore in FY26. Revenue is 2.1 times and profits 5.4 times of what they were in FY20, Chandrasekaran wrote in the latest annual report.
Profit for Tata Sons, which has a 25-73% stake in the various listed companies of the conglomerate, increased 22% to Rs 32,000 crore and revenue grew 9% to Rs 42,000 crore.
A Sharp Increase in Dividend Payout
The dividend per share is recommended at Rs 1,10,717, up from Rs 64,900 last year, by its board of directors. If approved by the shareholders, the dividend will lead to a cash out of Rs 4,474.58 crore as compared with previous year's out of Rs 2,622.91 crore.
