Healthcare technology startup BioStack has raised $9.5 million in funding in a round led by Peak XV Partners, DCVC and Afore Capital. The company plans to use the funding to expand its hospital network and improve its technology for collecting and organising medical data for artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Backed by Y Combinator, BioStack operates in India, the United States, Brazil and Argentina. The company has access to more than 100 million de-identified patient records and aims to make medical information easier to access and use for research. Its platform brings together patient records from different healthcare systems, helping researchers get a clearer picture of medical conditions and treatment outcomes.

Funding to Support Global Expansion
The funding round also included participation from Emerson Collective, SV Angel, Verdict Capital, Streamlined Ventures and Y Combinator. BioStack plans to use the money to expand its operations, improve its technology and strengthen its engineering and research teams.
The company also intends to build more partnerships with hospitals and healthcare providers. Medical information is often spread across different systems, making it difficult for doctors and researchers to access a patient's complete medical history. Test results, prescriptions, scans and treatment records may all be stored separately.
BioStack aims to address this problem by bringing these records together in a single, organised format. This can help researchers understand how a patient's condition changes over time, which treatments have been used and how patients respond to different medical interventions.
The company's presence in four countries also gives BioStack access to patient records from different healthcare systems. Expanding this network could help the company provide a wider range of medical data for research and healthcare technology development.
Medical Data Supports AI Development
BioStack also works on preparing medical datasets that can be used to train and test AI models. Its platform brings together different types of information, including medical scans, pathology reports, prescriptions and treatment histories.
The company has access to medical images such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and computed tomography (CT) scans, along with telehealth audio transcripts and other clinical records. These datasets can help researchers develop AI tools that work with different forms of medical information rather than relying only on written records.
The availability of reliable medical data is becoming increasingly important as healthcare companies explore the use of AI in medical research, diagnosis and treatment planning. AI models need access to relevant and accurate information to identify patterns and produce useful results.
By connecting records from different healthcare providers, BioStack aims to make it easier for researchers to study diseases and evaluate treatment outcomes. However, the usefulness of these datasets will depend on the quality of the information and whether it represents different patient groups and medical conditions.
Protecting patient information will also be important as the company expands. Although patient data privacy measures such as de-identification remove or mask details that could identify individuals, healthcare data must still be handled carefully and in line with applicable privacy laws and regulations.

With the latest funding, BioStack plans to expand its hospital partnerships and strengthen its healthcare data platform. As demand for healthcare AI grows, the company will look to make more clinical information available for research while maintaining data quality and protecting patient privacy. Its ability to build trusted partnerships with healthcare providers will be an important part of its next phase of growth.
