Canara Bank Q2 Results: Provisions and NPAs Decline
The total provisions for the quarter ended September 26 decreased to Rs 3,583 crore in Canara Bank from Rs 3,814 crore in the same quarter of last year.
In addition, the bank's gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio also showed improvement, reducing to 1.57% in Q2 FY27 from 2.35% in the quarter ending September 2025. A lower GNPA ratio means that there is a decrease in the percentage of gross advances that are considered non-performing.
The Provision Coverage Ratio (PCR) improved to 95.34% as of September 2026, compared with 94.76% in June 2026 and 93.59% in September 2025. The increase in coverage ratio is due to an increase in provisions associated with non-performing loans.
The reduction in provisions and the upside in asset-quality indicators were in step with the bank's year-on-year earnings increase in the quarterly profit.
