Finance Updates Today: Stocks, Rupee, Oil, IPOs & Corporate News

Finance Outlook India Team | Tuesday, 08 September 2026

Indian finance updates today, is being shaped by a weaker stock-market opening, rising crude oil prices, Middle East tensions, rupee movement, RBI intervention, foreign and domestic fund flows, fresh corporate developments and a busy IPO pipeline. The Sensex opened lower by more than 150 points and the Nifty 50 fell 0.15% to 23,743.10, while Brent crude hovered near $97 a barrel. On the corporate front, Reliance Industries, Suzlon Energy, Shiprocket, Adani Power and GE Vernova T&D India are among the key stocks in focus following a proposed Rs 12,500-crore bond issue, a 200 MW wind order, Q1 results, an acquisition move and a major transmission project. Meanwhile, defence stocks are gaining attention after the government approved procurement proposals worth around Rs 1.10 lakh crore, while the IPO market remains active with multiple issues and listings.

Reliance Industries Plans Rs 12,500-crore Bond Issue

Reliance Industries is among the biggest corporate developments this morning after reports that the company plans to return to India’s rupee bond market after nearly three years. The conglomerate is reportedly looking to raise around Rs 12,500 crore through five-year bonds carrying a coupon of about 7.47%. If completed, it would represent the company’s first rupee bond offering since November 2023 and one of the largest single-tranche fundraising exercises by a rated Indian non-financial company since then. Lower domestic bond yields have reportedly made rupee borrowing more attractive compared with dollar-denominated debt.

The development is significant for investors because Reliance’s borrowing strategy is closely watched as the group continues to invest across energy, telecom, retail and other businesses. The reported transaction also comes at a time when foreign-currency inflows have helped improve liquidity in India’s bond market.

Suzlon Secures 200 MW Wind Project from Ayana

Suzlon Energy is in focus after securing a 200 MW wind-energy order from Ayana Renewable Power for a project in Limbawas, Madhya Pradesh. The contract involves 64 units of Suzlon’s S144 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. The project will be executed through Suzlon’s integrated engineering, procurement and construction model.

The order also takes cumulative sales of Suzlon’s flagship S144 3.x MW platform beyond 10 GW, strengthening its position in India’s expanding renewable-energy market.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of Suzlon Group, said the partnership with Ayana comes as Madhya Pradesh strengthens its role in India’s next phase of wind-energy growth. Ajay Kapur, CEO of Suzlon Group, also highlighted the company’s end-to-end capabilities and said the integrated approach is creating new opportunities in renewable-energy development.

    Shiprocket Reports Narrower Q1 Loss

Newly listed logistics company Shiprocket is also attracting attention after reporting its first quarterly results since its stock-market debut. The company reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 13.7 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with a loss of Rs 18 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations increased 33.8% year-on-year to Rs 592.1 crore, while adjusted EBITDA turned positive at 8.9 crore.

The company’s emerging business recorded particularly strong growth, while core-business revenue rose 22%. Shares gained around 3% in early trading following the results.

Sahil Goel, Managing Director and CEO of Shiprocket, said the quarterly performance was in line with the company’s strategy and that it would continue investing in its rapidly growing new businesses.

Adani Power receives LoI for GVK Energy

Adani Power remains in focus after receiving a Letter of Intent to acquire GVK Energy following approval of its resolution plan by the company’s committee of creditors under the insolvency process. GVK Energy owns a 330 MW hydroelectric power project in Uttarakhand through its subsidiary Alaknanda Hydro Power Company.

The acquisition adds another hydroelectric asset to Adani Power’s portfolio and comes as the company continues to expand its generation capacity. The Competition Commission of India had earlier approved Adani Power’s acquisition of GVK Energy.

GE Vernova T&D India Emerges as L1 bidder

GE Vernova T&D India is among the strongest stocks in focus after emerging as the lowest bidder for a major Power Grid Corporation transmission project. The project involves establishing a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV HVDC transmission system connecting Barmer II in Rajasthan with South Kalamb in Maharashtra.

The project includes two 3,000 MW converter terminal stations and is designed to help evacuate renewable power from Rajasthan to major demand centres. GE Vernova T&D India’s shares jumped more than 7% in early trading following the announcement, while Nomura raised its target price to Rs 6,000.

    Sensex and Nifty Open Lower

Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, opened lower on Tuesday as rising oil prices and geopolitical concerns weighed on sentiment. The Nifty 50 opened at 23,743.10, down 0.15%, while the Sensex fell more than 150 points in early trade. IT and auto stocks were among the weaker sectors, while defence and selected metal stocks showed relative strength.

The market weakness follows Monday’s decline, with investors remaining cautious after Indian equities extended their broader downtrend.

    Crude Oil Approaches $98

Crude oil remains one of the biggest risks for Indian markets. Brent crude moved towards $97–$98 a barrel, with prices rising amid concerns about a widening Middle East conflict and possible disruptions to energy infrastructure and shipping routes.

India imports around 85% of its crude requirements, making sustained oil-price increases particularly important for inflation, the trade deficit, corporate costs and the rupee.

    RBI Continues Supporting the Rupee

The Indian rupee opened almost flat at around Rs 94.51 per US dollar, compared with Monday’s close of Rs 94.49. The currency remains caught between support from the Reserve Bank of India’s intervention and pressure from higher oil prices and dollar demand from importers and companies hedging their foreign-exchange exposure.

Reuters reported that the RBI has continued its intervention strategy, with state-run banks reportedly selling dollars around the Rs 94.70 level. The central bank’s focus remains on containing excessive volatility rather than targeting a particular exchange rate.

Defence Stocks Gain after Rs 1.10-lakh-crore Approval

Defence stocks including Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics, Paras Defence, BEML and Astra Microwave are in focus after the Defence Acquisition Council approved procurement proposals worth around Rs 1.10 lakh crore. Nearly 98% of the approved procurement is expected to be sourced from Indian industry.

The approvals cover requirements of the Army, Navy and Air Force and are expected to strengthen the outlook for domestic defence manufacturers. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council.

    IPO Market Remains Active

India’s primary market continues to attract strong investor interest. The latest IPO pipeline includes several offerings, while Rays of Belief made a flat stock-market debut on Tuesday, listing at Rs 239 per share on both the NSE and BSE.

The broader IPO market is also preparing for another significant wave, with six IPOs expected to raise more than Rs 4,500 crore on September 9, including offerings from Rentomojo, ARCIL, Manipal Payment & Identity Solutions, Steamhouse India, LCC Projects and Karamtara Engineering.

NSE IPO moves Closer to Reality

The long-awaited NSE IPO has also moved closer to becoming a reality after regulatory hurdles were cleared. The proposed offering could raise around Rs 3,000 crore, potentially making it India’s largest IPO fundraising event. The issue is expected to be an offer for sale by existing shareholders rather than a fresh issue of shares by NSE.

    Market Outlook

Indian equities are likely to remain volatile and stock-specific through Tuesday’s session. Investors will closely watch Reliance Industries, Suzlon Energy, Shiprocket, Adani Power and GE Vernova T&D India, while defence stocks may benefit from the government’s latest procurement approvals.

On the broader front, crude oil near $98, Middle East tensions, rupee movement, RBI intervention, FII-DII activity, US interest-rate expectations and the expanding IPO pipeline will remain important market triggers. The rupee’s relative stability and strong domestic capital-market activity provide some support, but higher energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty continue to pose significant risks to Indian equities.
