Finance News Today: Latest Corporate Earnings and Market News

Finance Outlook India Team | Saturday, 24 October 2026

India’s finance updates today is entering the weekend with corporate earnings and economic developments in focus. Infosys reported a 6.2% year-on-year increase in second-quarter net profit but lowered its FY27 revenue growth forecast, reflecting continuing uncertainty around technology spending. Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle business returned to profitability, while IndusInd Bank reported higher quarterly profits. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) recorded a year-on-year decline in profit despite higher revenue. On the economic front, Reserve Bank of India data showed that India’s net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows increased to US$13.8 billion during April–August FY27. However, rising crude oil prices and a sharp weekly decline in Indian equities continue to influence investor sentiment.

Infosys Reports 6.2% Profit Growth, Cuts FY27 Revenue Guidance

Infosys reported a 6.2% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 7,823 crore for the second quarter of FY27. Revenue from operations rose 10.7% to Rs 49,244 crore, while revenue increased 1.5% year-on-year in constant-currency terms.

The company secured large deals with a total contract value of US$5.2 billion during the quarter, including a substantial contribution from new business. Revenue from artificial intelligence-related services also recorded strong growth, highlighting the opportunities created by enterprise AI adoption.

However, Infosys reduced its FY27 revenue growth guidance to 1–2% in constant-currency terms, compared with its earlier forecast of 1.5–3%. The revision reflects slower technology spending, pricing pressure and uncertainty among clients, particularly in North America.

Infosys Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said the quarter had been softer than expected, with competitive intensity and clients seeking to capture AI-led productivity gains contributing to pricing pressure.

The company retained its operating margin guidance of 20–22% and announced an interim dividend of Rs 26 per share. Investors will closely monitor demand trends and the company’s ability to convert AI opportunities into sustainable revenue growth.

Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle Business Returns to Profit

Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle business reported standalone net profit of Rs 2,138 crore for Q2 FY27, reversing a loss of Rs 1,021 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations increased 42% year-on-year to Rs 23,930 crore.

The company benefited from stronger commercial vehicle demand, improved fleet utilisation, increased goods movement and higher industrial and mining activity. Wholesale volumes rose 42% to 135,100 vehicles, supported by domestic sales and exports.

Tata Motors Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Girish Wagh said improved fleet utilisation and industrial activity had supported demand. He added that although growth could moderate in the second half because of a higher base in the previous year, the commercial vehicle industry was expected to record double-digit growth for FY27, with Tata Motors positioned to outperform.

Despite the improvement in sales, the company’s operating margin declined to 11.7%, reflecting higher commodity costs. Tata Motors said cost management, operational efficiencies and calibrated pricing actions helped maintain margins sequentially.

The results highlight the importance of infrastructure activity, freight movement and industrial demand for India’s commercial vehicle industry.

IndusInd Bank Posts Rs 1,176 Crore Quarterly Profit

IndusInd Bank reported a second-quarter net profit of Rs 1,176 crore, exceeding analysts’ expectations. The lender benefited from loan growth and improving asset quality, although higher foreign-currency deposit costs continued to weigh on its lending margins.

Net interest income increased 4% year-on-year to Rs 4,569 crore. Advances grew 11.2%, while deposits increased 10.1%, returning to double-digit growth after the bank faced accounting discrepancies in its derivatives portfolio in 2025.

The bank’s adjusted net interest margin declined sequentially to 3.23%. However, its gross non-performing asset ratio improved to 2.73% at the end of September, compared with 3.25% in the previous quarter and 3.60% a year earlier.

IndusInd Bank Chief Executive Officer Rajiv Anand said the bank expected margins to improve as foreign-currency deposits were deployed into higher-yielding assets and the effects of interest-rate changes became more pronounced.

The results indicate progress in the bank’s recovery, although investors will continue to monitor profitability, lending growth and asset quality.

BPCL Profit Falls 21% Despite Revenue Growth

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited reported a 21.45% year-on-year decline in profit attributable to owners to Rs 4,863.05 crore for Q2 FY27. Revenue from operations increased 29.78% to Rs 1,57,817.93 crore.

Despite the annual decline, BPCL recorded a substantial sequential recovery from a loss of Rs 3,962.13 crore in the June quarter. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation reached Rs 8,971 crore, compared with a loss in the preceding quarter.

The company’s board also approved the incorporation of a wholly owned subsidiary to develop the proposed greenfield refinery and petrochemical complex at Ramayapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The subsidiary is expected to provide a dedicated structure for project development, financing discussions and engagement with potential partners, subject to the required approvals.

The detailed feasibility reports are being finalised, while investment decisions and financial commitments will be considered separately.

BPCL’s results highlight the influence of crude oil prices, refining economics and operating expenses on the earnings of oil marketing companies.

Sensex and Nifty Record Fourth Consecutive Session of Losses

Indian equity benchmarks ended lower for the fourth consecutive session on Friday, October 23, as rising crude oil prices and geopolitical concerns weighed on investor sentiment.

The Nifty 50 declined 0.39% to close at 22,600, while the Sensex fell 0.17% to 73,123.83. Both indices recorded weekly losses, with the Nifty declining approximately 2.4% and the Sensex losing around 2.2%.

The sell-off extended beyond the benchmark indices. Mid-cap and small-cap stocks recorded sharper declines, reflecting concerns about valuations, foreign investment outflows and the outlook for corporate earnings.

Rushabh Sheth, co-founder and co-chief investment officer at Karma Capital, described oil as an immediate pressure point for the market and warned that weaker monsoon conditions could pose a longer-term risk.

Indian equity markets are closed today, Saturday, October 24. Investors will return to trading with corporate earnings, international oil prices and global market movements remaining key factors.

India’s Net FDI Inflows Rise to US$13.8 Billion

India’s net foreign direct investment inflows increased to US$13.8 billion during April–August FY27, compared with US$9.6 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier, according to RBI data reported on Friday.

Net FDI inflows reached $3.3 billion in August, compared with a net outflow of US$103 million in August last year. Gross FDI inflows during April–August increased to US$54.9 billion from US$45.6 billion a year earlier.

The RBI attributed the improvement to higher gross inward investment and a slowdown in outward FDI. Financial services, communication services, computer services and manufacturing accounted for approximately 73% of total FDI equity inflows during the five-month period.

Singapore, Japan, Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates and the United States were among the major sources of inward investment.

The improvement in net FDI inflows is significant because long-term foreign investment can support business expansion, capital formation and employment. However, repatriation and disinvestment by foreign investors continue to influence the difference between gross and net inflows.

Crude Oil Prices Above US$114 Raise Economic Concerns

International crude oil prices climbed above $114 per barrel amid escalating tensions in West Asia and concerns about possible supply disruptions.

The rise has created additional uncertainty for India, which relies heavily on imported crude oil. Higher energy prices can increase the country’s import bill, put pressure on the rupee and contribute to inflation.

Oil-sensitive industries, including aviation, paints, chemicals and transportation, may face higher input costs if elevated prices persist. Oil marketing companies and refiners may also experience changes in profitability depending on refining margins and domestic fuel pricing.

The oil-price surge was one of the main factors behind the latest decline in Indian equities. Investors will continue to monitor geopolitical developments and global energy supply conditions for indications of whether the pressure will ease.

Jio Platforms IPO Attracts Strong Demand

Reliance Industries’ digital services subsidiary Jio Platforms remained a major focus for investors following its large public offering.

The Jio Platforms IPO attracted bids worth approximately US$77 billion,  making it one of the most heavily subscribed Indian public offerings. The strong demand demonstrated substantial investor interest in the country’s digital and telecommunications businesses.

However, the offering also became a factor in the wider market discussion because large IPOs can temporarily absorb liquidity that might otherwise be available for secondary-market investments.

Investors will assess the implications of the offering for Reliance Industries and the valuation assigned to Jio’s digital business. The IPO’s performance also offers an indication of investor appetite for large new listings amid volatile equity-market conditions.

Banks, Cement and Industrial Companies in Focus as Earnings Continue

India’s September-quarter earnings season continues on Saturday, October 24, with several companies scheduled to announce their Q2 FY27 results.

The list includes Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDFC First Bank, AU Small Finance Bank, Castrol India, JK Cement, SBFC Finance, Lumax Auto Technologies, Apollo Micro Systems and Gujarat Ambuja Exports.

Results from banks and financial services companies will provide insights into credit growth, net interest margins, deposit mobilisation and asset quality. Meanwhile, cement and industrial companies are expected to offer further indications of demand conditions, operating costs and profitability.

Investors will also monitor management commentary on the outlook for the second half of FY27. Since the stock exchanges are closed over the weekend, the announcements may influence trading sentiment when markets reopen on Monday.

The continued flow of earnings reports will be important in determining whether company-level profit growth can offset concerns about crude oil prices, inflation and global economic uncertainty.

    Market Outlook

India’s finance news on October 24 is dominated by mixed corporate earnings and a challenging market environment. Infosys lowered its FY27 revenue growth guidance despite reporting higher profit, while Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle business returned to profitability. IndusInd Bank recorded strong quarterly profit growth, whereas BPCL reported lower annual profit despite a substantial increase in revenue.

At the broader economic level, India’s net FDI inflows improved during the first five months of FY27, but rising crude oil prices and continued weakness in equities remain concerns. Investors will be watching upcoming earnings announcements, foreign investment trends and geopolitical developments for further direction in the Indian financial markets.
