India’s finance updates today highlights pressure from elevated crude oil prices, geopolitical uncertainty and the ongoing September-quarter earnings season. Investors are assessing corporate earnings, foreign investment flows and the outlook for global interest rates. Several companies have reported their second-quarter results, while more businesses are scheduled to announce their financial performance on Monday, October 26.
Kotak Mahindra Bank Reports 26% Rise in Q2 Consolidated Profit
Kotak Mahindra Bank reported a 26% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 5,645 crore for the second quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 4,468 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
On a standalone basis, net profit increased approximately 29% to Rs 4,212 crore. Net interest income rose 16% year-on-year to Rs 8,459 crore, supported by growth in the bank’s lending business. Provisions and contingencies declined 15% to Rs 804 crore, while asset quality improved.
The bank’s gross non-performing asset ratio declined to 1.04% as of September 30, compared with 1.39% a year earlier. Its net NPA ratio stood at 0.24%. However, the net interest margin declined to 4.31% from 4.54% a year earlier, partly reflecting the impact of foreign currency non-resident deposit mobilisation.
Managing Director and CEO Ashok Vaswani leads Kotak Mahindra Bank as it pursues growth across retail, corporate and digital banking. Investors will monitor loan growth, deposit mobilisation and margins to determine whether the bank can maintain its earnings momentum in the coming quarters.
Coforge Reports 56.5% Profit Growth, Raises Margin Guidance
IT services company Coforge reported a 56.5% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 588 crore for the September quarter of FY27. Revenue from operations increased 53.6% to approximately Rs 6,171 crore.
The company’s performance was supported by strong deal wins and growing demand for technology services, including artificial intelligence-led solutions. Coforge signed eight large deals during the quarter, with a total contract value of approximately US$1.04 billion. Its executable order book for the following 12 months reached US$2.38 billion, representing 45% year-on-year growth.
Coforge CEO and Executive Director Sudhir Singh said the company’s sequential growth, order intake and large-deal momentum had strengthened its position in the IT services market. He also noted that AI was being incorporated into existing fixed-price projects, contributing to margin improvement.
Coforge raised its FY27 EBIT margin guidance to 16% from 15.5%. The company also outlined an ambition to improve its EBIT margin to 17% in the following financial year.
The results place Coforge among the IT services companies benefiting from strong contract execution and technology transformation spending. Investors will watch its ability to convert the expanding order book into revenue while sustaining profitability.
Netweb Technologies’ Q2 Profit Jumps 335% on AI Demand
Netweb Technologies India reported a sharp increase in profitability for the second quarter of FY27, supported by demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure and high-performance computing systems.
The company’s profit after tax rose approximately 335% year-on-year to Rs 136.7 crore, while revenue from operations increased 335.7% to Rs 1,323.3 crore. Operating EBITDA climbed to Rs 197.3 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 14.9%.
Artificial intelligence systems have become an important contributor to the company’s business. During the first half of FY27, AI systems accounted for approximately 59.9% of operating revenue, reflecting growing demand for infrastructure capable of supporting AI workloads.
Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Lodha described the September quarter as another record period for revenue and profit. He also highlighted the company’s order book of approximately Rs 2,629 crore as of September 30, providing visibility into potential future business.
Netweb also reported an additional pipeline of opportunities, although pipeline value should not be treated as confirmed revenue.
The results highlight the potential benefits of increased AI infrastructure investment. Investors will nevertheless assess whether the company can sustain its growth rate, manage execution requirements and maintain margins as its business expands.
Senco Gold to Acquire 68% Stake in Melorra Operator
Jewellery retailer Senco Gold has entered into agreements to acquire a 68% stake in August Jewellery Private Limited, the company operating the Melorra brand, for Rs 68 crore.
The investment is expected to be completed in multiple tranches, with the transaction targeted for completion by February 2027, subject to specified conditions. Following the transaction and an additional investment by a promoter-group entity, the overall stake is expected to reach 79%.
The acquisition is intended to strengthen digital and omnichannel strategy of Senco Gold. Melorra’s online retail capabilities and contemporary jewellery positioning could complement Senco Gold’s existing retail network.
The transaction also reflects the growing importance of e-commerce and digital customer engagement in India’s jewellery market. Investors will monitor the integration process and whether the acquisition contributes to revenue growth and operating efficiency.
Paytm, Tata Consumer Products and Other Companies in Focus
Several listed companies are scheduled to announce their September-quarter financial results on Monday. These include One 97 Communications, the operator of Paytm; Tata Consumer Products; ITC Hotels; Mankind Pharma; REC; Ather Energy; Bank of Maharashtra; Indian Overseas Bank; Sona BLW Precision Forgings and Nazara Technologies.
The results are expected to provide additional insight into consumer demand, digital payments, pharmaceuticals, electric mobility, power-sector financing and industrial activity.
Investors will assess revenue growth, profitability, operating costs and management guidance to determine whether companies are meeting market expectations. Results should be distinguished from earnings that have already been announced, as reporting schedules and release times may change.
Sensex and Nifty Under Pressure at the Start of the Week
Indian equity benchmarks opened lower on Monday, October 26, amid weak global signals and concerns about elevated crude oil prices. At approximately 9:15 a.m. IST, the Nifty 50 declined 0.46% to 22,499.3, while the Sensex fell 0.36% to 72,833.84.
Information technology stocks led the early losses, with the IT index declining approximately 2.3%. Infosys shares came under pressure following the company’s reduction in its FY27 revenue growth guidance.
Investors are also watching banking, consumer and industrial stocks as companies report their September-quarter results. Market direction will depend on earnings announcements, foreign investment flows, oil prices and developments in global monetary policy.
Foreign Investor Outflows Remain a Market Concern
Foreign portfolio investment flows remain an important factor influencing Indian equities. Overseas investors have been cautious amid geopolitical uncertainty, expensive crude oil and questions about corporate earnings growth.
Sustained foreign selling can weigh on benchmark indices, particularly when it affects large-cap stocks. Domestic institutional investors can provide some support, although the balance between foreign and domestic flows may change from session to session.
Investors will monitor official exchange and depository data to assess whether foreign flows improve as the earnings season progresses. Global interest-rate expectations and movements in the US dollar are also likely to influence overseas investment decisions.
Crude Oil Prices Keep Inflation Risks in Focus
Crude oil prices remained elevated on Monday, with Brent crude trading near US$114 per barrel in early reports, after reaching higher levels amid geopolitical tensions and concerns about potential supply disruptions.
Higher oil prices pose a risk for India because the country depends heavily on imported crude. A prolonged increase could raise the import bill, place pressure on the rupee and complicate efforts to contain inflation.
Energy-intensive industries, including aviation, transportation and manufacturing, could also face higher operating expenses. Investors will therefore monitor oil prices and geopolitical developments for signs of easing supply risks.
Rupee and Government Bond Yields Remain Under Watch
The Indian rupee closed at Rs 94.94 against the US dollar on Friday, October 23. Currency movements remain sensitive to crude oil prices, overseas capital flows and changes in the dollar’s strength.
Government bond yields have also risen. The yield on India’s benchmark 10-year government security reached approximately 7.474% on October 23, compared with 7.193% on October 6.
V. Ramachandra Reddy, head of treasury at Karur Vysya Bank, said persistently elevated yields could increase government borrowing costs and put pressure on interest expenditure. Venkatakrishnan Srinivasan, founder and managing partner of Rockfort Fincap LLP, highlighted liquidity conditions, global bond yields and crude oil prices as factors affecting the bond market.
Investors will continue to track inflation expectations, government borrowing requirements and signals from the Reserve Bank of India for clues about the direction of domestic interest rates.
US Federal Reserve Decision in Focus This Week
Global monetary policy is another important factor for Indian financial markets. Investors are awaiting the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision scheduled for October 28, which could influence the dollar, US Treasury yields and emerging-market investments.
A higher-for-longer US interest-rate outlook could support dollar-denominated assets and make overseas investors more cautious about emerging markets. A more accommodative outlook could improve sentiment towards riskier assets, although the effect would also depend on inflation and economic-growth data.
In India, investors will additionally watch the September-quarter earnings season and upcoming economic indicators for signs of strength in domestic demand and industrial activity.
With company results, crude oil prices, foreign investment flows and central-bank decisions converging, investors are likely to remain selective. Corporate earnings and management guidance will be particularly important in determining which sectors can withstand the current market pressures.
