Prajwal Revanna, the former Hassan MP who was convicted of rape, has been assigned to work as a library clerk at the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara, where he is serving a life sentence.

Additional B Dayananda, Director General of Police (Prisons), confirmed Revanna's placement in the prison library. According to a senior officer, he began his duties about a week ago. According to the reports, his responsibilities include lending books to other inmates and keeping track of the library's inventory.

    Key Highlights

    • Jailed ex-MP Prajwal Revanna works as a library clerk in Bengaluru prison earning ₹520 daily.
    • Revanna’s daily wage reflects stark contrast with his previous MP salary and current convict status.

According to prison rules, Revanna was initially classified as an unskilled labourer. Prisoners in this category are typically given options like baking, carpentry, gardening, animal husbandry, or crafts. According to the report, Revanna was eventually assigned to work in the library.

The 34-year-old former MP currently earns approximately Rs 520 per day. This amount may gradually increase depending on job category and seniority. In Karnataka, wages range from Rs 524 for unskilled work to Rs 663 for highly skilled jobs. Semi-skilled and skilled jobs pay Rs 548 and Rs 615, respectively. Revanna, identified by prison uniform number 15528, is scheduled to work 2-3 days per week and is only paid for the days he works.

Revanna was transferred from a high-security cell to the convicts' section following his conviction. On August 2, 2024, a special court sentenced him to life in prison for repeatedly raping his domestic help. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 11.6 lakh to compensate the survivor.

The case was investigated by the CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by officer B K Singh. In September 2024, the SIT filed a detailed 1,632-page chargesheet, which was supported by 113 witness statements.

The chargesheet claimed that Revanna raped the victim twice and recorded the assaults on his phone. These videos became critical evidence after being leaked during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Forensic experts confirmed Revanna's appearance in the videos.

The Special Court for Criminal Cases Against MPs and MLAs found him guilty of raping a domestic worker at the Revanna family farmhouse and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
